Is there such a thing as a midi to mod file converter? If so, where can I find one? If not, why not?

No, this program is backwards. It goes from Mod to MIDI. I need it the other way around...

ModPlug Tracker will convert a MIDI to a MOD. The function to do this is a little hidden though.

OK, can you tell me how exactly to access this function? It looks very promising...

Open the MIDI file in ModPlug then where it says "Song Type:", see the Change... button, click that and select "ProTracker MOD".

Wow, that sounds really bad. I noticed that the MIDI file by default opend as an IT tracker file with pattern sized of 128 each. Upon converting to MOD, it reduces the pattern sized to 64. However, rather that splitting each pattern into 2 patterns like would make sense, it simply throws the last 64 of each pattern away. Whats the deal? How do I combat this?

try midmix. it converts to XM, 64rows.
then you can convert it to "ProTracker MOD" with Modplug.
#58183 - thegamefreak0134 - Fri Oct 21, 2005 3:13 pm
I did all of that, got it to convert properly, and got the samples to sound right, at least in modPlug. Now when I try to save it, the filesounds bad in anything else and refuses to open with FRAS Mod2Fras.exe, which is the whole reason I was going through all ofo this fun stuff. Can anyone explain?

When you save a .mod file, Modplug Tracker strips out everything that .mod cannot represent. If you reopen the .mod file, you can tell what was stripped out. Does the file still work ok in Modplug Tracker even after saving and reopening?

Haven't tried that. I did open the mod with another player. The individual tracks (or channels) appeared to play fine, but the file itself did not. It was wierd...
I'll try that later, when I get the chance.

was following steps to get midi to mod (to play in game using Apex audio system) because I have a keyboard that outputs midi.
but got stuck on the bit where modplug conversion truncates after 64... tryed to download midmix and couldn't find it.
is there a decent program that converts midi -> mod without doing crap trucation? or if not, can someone tell me where to download midmix.
has mod got a limit of 4 channels?
mod blows.
thanx in advance for the help :-)

I think you're supposed to split long patterns into two.

The Amiga hardware had four HW sample playback channels. Later modplayers extended the format for up to 32 channels or so.
In practice, .mod blows mostly because of lack of support for doing a volume effect at the same time as another effect. The .s3m format, on the other hand, has a dedicated column for volume or panning effects.

It's my mistake. I should have written midimix, not midmix.
You can get here.

Er... dunno if anyone knows about this site - posted in another thread where someone was having a similar need/issue.
http://www.un4seen.com/ - This has a util called MIDI2XM. He claims it to be very accurate. I have not tired it yet, but it's another option to try....
EDIT : I just realized - from the other thread titles it appears that the sound libraries for GBA are very particular about exactly which format the MOD is in - I am accoustomed of thinking that IT, XM, s3m, et. al. = MOD, but apparently not for GBA. Your mileage may vary with the above link....
#68051 - tepples - Sun Jan 22, 2006 6:09 am
Think of it this way: saying that it, xm, and s3m are all mod is like saying that aac, wma, and ogg are all mp3.

so how exactly do you get midii's to play in the mod tracker?? my guess is I do not have midi a library? since they are all red and are askin for a file, that may be why i cant get the mod to work
