Beginners > GBA/NDS communicate with external hardware?

#149126 - HowlingMad - Tue Jan 15, 2008 7:36 pm

I was wondering if either the GBA or NDSL can communicate with an external wired device?

I need to control a stepper motor and am wondering if this hardware can do it. A stepper motor is what is normally used in a plotter to control the ink pen that draws the diagram. The motor can travel forward or backwards in increments of .09 inches.

I would like to be able to use a GBA SP or NDSL to control a 3-axis router table. I do not want to install another computer in the garage in a very dusty environment.

Thanks, HowlingMad

Have you looked at Charmed labs? They make an add on specifically for controlling external hardware, such as robots.

The charmedlabs thing is a little rich for my blood but I am going to look at it further. Thanks much!

Interesting! Unfortunately every reference I could find to actually purchase the item came up as 'sold out'.

Please let me know if you come up with any other ideas. The controller that comes with the kits (for the stepper motors) has an LPT connection for control.

Thank you very much! Bob

Considered a Multiboot V2 cable yet? It will let you connect a GBA to a standard serial port.
Don't know if anyone still sells them though. I got mine from Lik-Sang, and we all know what happened to them.
