I have tried copy and paste (and it works) but doesn't look very elegant.
Everybody else seems to be able to include snippets of other posts or bits of code on nice white backgrounds.
How do I do that please.

Surround the code snippet with [code] and [/code].
You can also select the code inside the textarea, then click the "Code" button above the textarea.

Hit the quote button on the right side of every post, and it surrounds their post in Quote tags.
