Beginners > DevKitAdv vs. DevKitARM

#36878 - Vylrath - Wed Mar 02, 2005 8:34 pm

Hi,

I'm a newbie to GBA design, and am planning on compiling my first program. What's the difference between DevKitAdv and DevKitARM, if any? My apologies if the question has been answered elsewhere.

Thanks,
Vyl

As far as I can tell, usage of DevKitAdv seems to be highly frowned upon, and usage of DevKitArm is encouraged.

DevKit Advance uses a comparatively old version of GCC. DevkitARM tracks the most recent GCC, which can potentially result in faster compiled code and less need for hand-coded assembly language. In addition, devkitARM is also bundled with a simple 'libgba' that abstracts over the hardware somewhat, though not as much as HAM.
