Beginners > Java on GBA???

#38819 - torix - Fri Apr 01, 2005 1:49 am

I've been reading webpages on the Internet, and I heard a few times about a GBA version of a Java VM. One of them was called JEMBlazer. I know enough Java to start a decent program.

Does anyone know about this, or know where I can get it? It would be amazing if Java apps could be made on the GBA. :D

Thanks.

My god - running a java virtual machine on a non-capable system. Why, besides for convience? C and Java are so close that it wouldn't take much time to learn C...

It's my understanding that JEMBlazer requires a custom devkit and cartridge which contains a special chip to interpret the Java language.

Practically speaking, the GBA lacks the hardware resources with which to do interpretation of Java in any reasonably useful capacity.

You can have a look at the port of Sun's KVM I did some time ago, if you really want to play with Java.

But keep in mind that Java can't be considered as a development solution on GBA because of performance issues.
