Flash Equipment > F2A Ultra 256M -- do you have one ? How well does it work ?

#17122 - bubun - Mon Mar 01, 2004 9:43 pm

I am thinking of buying a Flash2Advance ULTRA 256MB version. However, before making the purchase, I would like some feedback from actual owners of this unit.

If you own one of these, could you please post your experience with this.

-- Do all games (that you have tried) work with this ?
-- Does this cart work with the GC GameBoy player (I know it *should* but I want to know if anyone actually have tried it) ?
-- Does PogoShell work with this ?
-- Finally, does the two "save anytime" buttons on the cart work as promised ?

Thanks very much in advance for ANY feedback !!!

Thanks Lupin ! Where did you you buy yours from ? Which version did you get ?

I am *this* close to buying ;) ... just would feel better to get some confirmation first.

i bought it at lan-kwei.com, it is already arrived, but still at the customs authority, i will get it tomorrow (at least i hope so). I already tried today, i took the train to the next city, then i walked through half the city searching for their building and then i was told it's somewhere outside the city area... well, i am kinda annoyed now by german authorities... but i think the shop itself is good, though they didn't tell me that i need to pay value added tax (though this is obvious if you import, but in germany we have 16% tax!!! That's an extra 30?)

In sweden we have 25% VAT :-)

25%!!!

That's hella lot. Just mark it as gift. And bing! No VAT.

Or make someone that you trust buy it and send it :P

Well, no webshop will do that since it would be illegal.

success and other asian webshops do it...

well, after paying 30? vat i got my f2au and my gba sp (finally i have my own GBA :P)... my first impress - IT ROCKS!!!

I am writing pogoshell to the rom right now (20mb rom, so it takes some seconds :)), already writing 22 seconds (like 10% now :/)... well, i will eat something while it's writing :)

I like the splash screen that shows up on the GBA when you write a rom, really stylish!! Though i am still wondering about the info that's shown there (there should be percentage information on the screen...).

pogoshell works (the new beta)

the writing is faster than i thought, it didn't take that long (status was displayed wrong i think)

Lupin - which version of the F2A Ultra did you get ? 256MB ? 512MB ? 1GB ?

#17205 - Lupin - Wed Mar 03, 2004 7:32 pm

256mbit version...

Though, when i start a gba game with pogoshell it doesn't work (but it also didn't work in emulator)...

#17207 - ampz - Wed Mar 03, 2004 7:50 pm

Pogoshell does _not_ work on emulators.

ampz, i already thought so, i just wanted to point out that it acts the same on gba as it acts on vba...

Well, after rebooting my PC i found out that i can't start as long as the f2a is connected to my usb port, i got to connect it after i boot up and then install it again to make it work... maybe that's just an odd driver problem and only specific to my PC, but it ticks me off :)

I think i email them today...

oh, i am just dumb, i didn't start pogoshell as boot file! Now it works perfectly!!!

hm, i just noticed that they released a new version on http://www.flash2advance.com, but i can't download it (it gives me a 403 error - "forbidden")

You just have to select the pogoshell rom (the 64kb one) as gba bootfile (config menu)

I am getting that 403 error as well.

And what is the huge 34MB file they are talking about ? Anywhere else we can find it ?

BTW, I finally bought the F2A Ultra 256 cart and I liked it very much. All the games I have tried so far works fine. In fact after using it for just a few weeks, I liked it so much that I bought the 1GB version as well. That seems to work fine too.
