Flash Equipment > Which flash???!

#19523 - Gobbas - Wed Apr 21, 2004 10:19 am

I've bin looking at different flashcards but I cant deside which ones the best and how much mem to get (128,256,512)? What features are good? Can I save "other" stuff on my flashcard, like a mem stick?

The EZ-Flash seems great! or?
Flash2Advance seems to be well known..

hmm would be great with some useful tipps! some guidens in the tricky flashmarket.

Thanks in advance

You can save any file on a flash cart, but if you're not going to be using a file from within a GBA program, it'd probably be cheaper to buy either a USB flash stick or a CF reader and CF cards.

I have a EZF USB with the 256M card and I think its great... It was real easy to install and start using the sofware on both Windows Xp and Windows 2000. The cable also functions as a multiboot cable so you can run 256KB programs without having to transfer them to the card.

Thanks for the replies and the votes!
I think I'm starting to deside which I want.

The EZ didn't have built in support for SMS GBC and so on?
What can I do to fix that? is it good emulation?

What's up with pogoshell? What can I do with it?
Every where I look it says "no pogoshell support"
But then again every where I look I see people saying they are using
pogoshell.. hmm strange.. Now how does this work???

It has LIMITED PogoShell support as the author of PogoShell doesn't have an EZFA cart. It can't load games, it freezes sometimes, and key features that make PogoShell PogoShell don't work.

Feel free to send him one so PogoShell can be completely compatible with the EZFA.

PogoShell users should stick to Flash2Advance cards.

Ok I checked Pogoshells homepage and it said he got a EZ-flash card to test on so is it possible it will have full pogoshell support soon?

#20132 - dagamer34 - Sun May 02, 2004 8:17 pm

It is possible. It just depends. The reason why it isn't fully supported now is because the developer, Borden, "prefers" not to release specifications on his carts, namely how to bankswitch on the cart and the RTC/saving routines.

EZ-flash and the flash2advance which is the best for these things:
Mp3 player
Gaming
Dev
(e-book)

How about power consumption??

I wasn't talking about PogoShell. I was referring to the documentation of the EZFA itself. Borden is the designer of the "EZ" line of flash carts.

Any new updates on the best flash card type to buy? I'm a bit new to the development scene and want to give myself the most flexibility in features.

There are a few types of Flash Advance cards, like Flash II and such. Which way do I go with that? Did EZFlash ever finally support PogoShell?

I find that transparent EZFA red cart really sexy. it was the first to support RTC games, but it's not hardware support, it patches the games to use its protocol. which kinda sucks cause I want to access RTC, but it'd be different from other cards. Now I believe XROM and ultra flash advance has RTC hardware, so it's more standard, like your demo would work fine on those carts but not the EZFA red one.

I think my next flash card purchase will be that purple one that has a usb chip on cart. It supports RTC, and seems pretty cool. There's a cart that has a removable battery, but I think it's a gimmick, I'm turned away by it. if I could pick any cart to buy again, it'd be the flash advance extreme 256, but it has no RTC, and is hard to come by.
