i assume it would have to because all cartriges are compatable with all future machines. that means that anything that works on gb, gbc, gbp (pocket), and gba should work on gba-sp.
I dont have any proof tho.

I have heard that the only card that won't fit without cutting the edges is the 512 mb card.

Not quite. The "heads" of most of the GBA flashcarts are oversized compared to an official game cart. The cart slot in the SP is recessed more than the original, and the larger head just won't fit.
People have successfully filed down the sides of the head to make it fit, since only a little bit of plastic needs to be removed.

The size of the 128 extreme and 256 turbo (visoly carts) seem to be the same exact size of an original cart. However the 512 extreme (visoly) has a huge top and will definately NOT fit into an unmodified GBA SP. Comparison between 512 and 128 extreme below:

A Visoly Turbo 128 cart *just* fits, and, erm, requires a bit of wiggling to get it back out again (good job there's a bit sticking out to use as a handle then ;) )

I have a flash2advance 128Mbit and it fits with no problem in the SP.
However I cannot program it with the Flash2Advance HiSpeedLinker
Parallel cable. It works fine in the GBA.

I had to cut some of the case with sandpaper from my gf's 64M card.
Everyone should get a 256M...

I gave up on that one and bought the USB Linker with a 256MB cart.
Works great.
