DS development > Wifi HomeBrew and DHCP not working ?

#99334 - KTy - Sun Aug 20, 2006 7:50 pm

HI,

Is it just me or ... ?

I can't get any homebrew apps using WiFi to properly work with DHCP enable... Other 'official' games using WiFi do work... ?!

Is it a known issue ? If so, it is terrible as I was planning to take my DS during travels, airports and railway stations ...etc :(

Thks !

KTy

Could you tell us the specific homebrew you tried? Most active projects work with DHCP, because it's in the latest dswifi.

I've tried latest release of DSOrganize and NDSmail...
Switching back to static IP worked for DSO, while I end up fighting with NDSmail that kept crashing...

Oh, I forget, and Beup 0.3 too... Works fine when I gave him a static IP...

I'm using a Lynksys WRT54G router (running Satori-4.0 v2.07.1.7).

Try setting your router to 802.11b only - there appear to be problems relating to the transmission speed when obtaining an IP address with DHCP.You'll need to ask sgstair for the specific cause, I'm not entirely clear on the exact cause but limiting the speed has worked for most people.

Tried 11b mode and 2mbit transmission rate with no success :(

But sgstair said he's rewriting the 802.11 code, hope it will work :P

Ok, I'll try later tonight...

I tried in mixed-mode, b only, g only and I couldn't make the DHCP work for neither beup and ndsmail...

NDSmail tell me he sees my accces point, but it cannot receive any DHCP information...

ive never seen dhcp work, period. ive walked around town and tried literally dozens of open APs and exactly ZERO have connected. this is in mario kart, not homebrew even. ive only seen it work by entering the details by hand on my own and my friends wireless.

DHCP works for me.. but only in WFC games and certain homebrew apps like dsaim. I've connected to the local Go Club and their WiFi works well with WFC/dsaim. But for other homebrew apps such as DSOrganize, I have to manually configure the settings for it to connect to the Homebrew Database/IRC.

DHCP never worked either, I always set it to static IP.

You don't mention whether you are using a DSLite or not.

I found that wifi_example1 works flawlessly on my DSPhat but fails to connect on my DSLite.

Both systems have been configured so that Mario Kart works perfectly on WFC. If I put my SuperCard DS into the DSPhat, wifi_example1 works. If I put my SuperCard DS into the DSLite, wifi_example1 fails.

I probably need to open a new thread about this, but I'm too tired right now.

bsder: I think it's just your Wifisettings. There's practically no difference in how it works on a phatty and a lite. Make sure profile #1 is connectable.

DHCP has never worked for any homebrew or the WiFi Test application for me either, on any of my 5 routers.

They are all Linksys, ranging from a version 2 BEFW11S4, to the latest WRT54GL.

I have always had to use Static IP, but I have no problems with DHCP on official games.
