I am announcing the Christmas Game compo a bit early and toying with the idea of doing a Halloween themed one as well. Any thoughts or donation ideas would be appreciated.

I doubt I'll have time to enter the christmas compo, but I might be up for a quick halloween themed demo. It's been far too long since I did any nice effects.

I was thinking the Halloween would be a bit lower key so maybe just a Demo compo?
Does anyone even write demos any more?

Well.. I want to see useful things that make us go "WOW!!".
Perhaps an open creativity compo?

[edit] BTW, typo in the topic title!

I am not sure how a themed compo could produce anything useful...other than perhaps some interesting source code.

Unless somebody decides to run with the "Christ" part of Christmas and makes a Bible reader or something.

an INTERACTIVE bible... with the google (tm) bible bar (tm) *lol*
some nice halloween demos (like themepark booths or rollercoasters or something) would be nice, though.

Sounds like a cool idea to me. I'll be up for donating at least something...

As usual I have no time to participate, but I'd kick in a donation. I think it would be cool to do a contest with an engine (or a least partial engine) provided at some point. It could also be a good community project putting that together. However I guess maybe there are so few entries anyway that would be counterproductive.

Halloween theme is ok by me, better than xmas theme. The dcemu.co.uk contest ends at the same time as the Xmas compo, not a problem but it might be better if they didn't overlap. It's good to have them at different times just in case you miss a deadline but there's still plenty of time to create an entry for both.

Why have a theme? Just say to have a halloween themed splash screen so it dosn't limit people to a halloween themed game or app.

Because i like themes...It has a tendency to both focus people as well as prevent 15 tetris clones. There are a couple of bigger compos floating about without themes for those that have the time to do bigger things.
That being said the enforcement of the theme is pretty loose. No entry will be disqualified based on adherance to theme but they will be judged more criticaly.

That or elven interns building toys out of blocks, where every time you send a garbage line, a new part of the toy is connected appears.

That's pretty cool actually. On the graphical side, I'd like to see it use both the screens as one uberbig screen. That would look nice!

So now we need to see if we can come up with 15 unique ideas for a Christmas theme for tetris.. :D
Edit: oops.. I put 12 instead of 15.. :)

What if the tetris piece presents on the top screen open up when you complete lines and dump pieces for some sort of bejeweled clone onto the bottom screen? Just think of the casual gaming synergy!
