DS development > testing on hardware

#105140 - Rajveer - Fri Oct 06, 2006 11:26 am

what method do devs prefer to test on hardware? im using a supercard but the constant sd card switching is doing my head in. anybody tried using ds-link? (the one with a usb connection)

For most things I use WMB. When that fails I card-swap my CF in my GBAMP.

doing most my tests on emulator and SD card switching when the program passed the fool-proof tests ... and yes, that means i'll need the week-end to debug something the emulator cannot handle, unfortunately :P

If it won't work on an emulator then I use WMB. The problem with WMB is it doesn't auto run at startup and it can take a while to detect that I'm offering a file. I will replace it with a homebrew wi-fi loader eventually (if I can get it to be as fast and compatible as WMB). I might flash the wi-fi loader onto an MK2 as the menu to make it auto boot (I don't have GBAMP, so I can't use _BOOT_MP_.nds).

Card swapping. Takes about 5 seconds from Build Succeeded (PC), to Run NDS (hardware).

I use DSFTP to tranfer wirelessly to the card.

you mean http://giesler.biz/bjoern/en/sw_dsftp.html, right?

with .nds boot from the FTP prompt ... yum yum ... all i'd then need would be a way to "quit app and return to DSFTP now?" dialog box, then ;)

I'm also swapping SD and SD-mini cards to my M3-SD and M3-SDmini... Pretty tiring in the
long run, but unfortunately no emulator emulates 3D well enough, or Wifi. Also my SD
card write-lock is pretty loose... Still, this works under Linux quite well.
