DS development > Lemmings on the DS?

#110276 - spinal_cord - Mon Nov 27, 2006 1:29 pm

Sinse nobody seems to be doing this (yes I know there is a tread about the possibilities etc.) I thought I'd give it a go, I figured using the bottom screen as a laptop style tracker rather than haveing the screen down there would work quite well.

here is a .nds of it, the stylus accuracy is a little problem, but i'm sure with time that will get better.

It's not playable yet, there are no lemmings. You can just look at the terrian and select icons. It's a nice start.

from my lemmings gameplay experience, i'd not quite recommend the use of a laptop touchpad (but you're free to do that if you want ...)

Rather, i'd use direction arrows (or ABYX for the left-handed guys) to scroll a kind of 'zooming window' in the bottom area, where you'll select lemmings, etc.

using L+DPAD (or R+ABYX) for quickly picking the "next lemmings on the right" could be handy too for playing in less perfects environments (e.g. subway ^_^)

Looking forward for a playable demo of one of my favourite-ever games ...

Yes, instead of quarreling over it, I also think that both of you should continue to work on it. To me, it doesn't matter who else already worked on a project, if I want to do it, I would always go ahead with it. Otherwise you might as well do nothing at all, because - let's face it - (mostly) everything has been done at one point or another.

I was just joking to spinal_cord when I was saying you bastard, but things like what jester says are how fights start

Who said I'm further? I bet im nowhere near as far! I dont have any sprites (other than the pointer) no way to load or store levels, and vertually no engine what so ever, this was only intended as a test to see if the control method would work. However, I will be continuing with it and see no reason why we can't have more than one lemmings clone on the DS.

lol wormsDS is pretty much crap. and really glitchy... but enjoyable nonetheless...
i think it would be great if you both did your versions, but each slightly different, for instance spinalcord could work on a more direct clone, with original levels and that like in his screenshot. While knightofdragon could work on his own engine, and maybe add cusomizable levels and new abilities and stuff. I would definately play both of those.

They're already working on a project...
Don't bug people by letting them know you'd prefer entirely different games. It's their choice, and they made it clear they both want to keep working on these projects.
