DS development > DS Homebrew Recommedations

#110300 - thegamefreak0134 - Mon Nov 27, 2006 6:55 pm

Having become content with viewing the examples in the dekKitPRO directory, I am rather bored with homebrew at the moment. I'm working on some projects of my own, but you know how that usually goes...

Anywho, can someone recommend some good, preferrably 3D homebrew stuff for me to try out? I'm just interested in the scene mainly. Thanks!

Well poo. Doom requires a FAT card, and I am using an old GameboyAdvance Flashcart, which doesn't quite do the trick. Is there a way to make this behave like a FAT card, even in read-only mode? (So I can run the gane just for the heck of it)

But, aren't those all just ports to the DS? Here are some homebrew 3D demos that aren't just ports:

There is something called "FCSR" that you may be able to make use of if you recompile Doom.

Actually, you don't even need to recompile doom. You simply need to generate a FCSR image and append it to the binary. If you look through the ds doom topic, I made a post somewhere with dsdoom+shareware wad, which should work on almost any flashcart with GBAROM space.

Cool. I think Ill try this one out now.

BTW, I have an EZflash cart, which lets me give as much as 2048 Kb of SRAM to a particular game. Using this knowledge, is it possible to compile a flashcart friendly version that does support saving? Thanks.

*EDIT* Actually, a much better question is what steps did you follow to actually create the file you posted? Not only do I want to try other wad files, I want to try appending the FAT thing to other programs so I can try them out? (I don\'t have a FAT solution quite yet, unfortunately... Mainly I want to try hexen and heretic. Doom was awesome though!)

This post tells how to create an FCSR image on GNU/Linux. But does building an FCSR image on a machine that runs Microsoft Windows OS require shutting down the machine (and all services running on that machine) and using a Knoppix CD?

You can download a windows version of fcsrimage.zip from http://gpf.dcemu.co.uk (on the left side).

Build a DS transfer program.
There is DSFTP and some other app that will transfer files from comp to DS.
How about something to share files between DS'?

Are there enough homebrew-capable Nintendo DS systems in the wild for this to be useful? And how would you copy the transfer program itself to the other DS?
