DS development > ComicBookDS V2.0

#116058 - Paco_777 - Sun Jan 21, 2007 2:56 pm

Hello,

ComicBookDS V2.0 Beta is available.
The homepage is updated (userguide, install instructions, history, ...)
It's here : http://Gnese.free.fr/NDS/ComicBookDS/
I've created a new page for ComicBookDS free content here http://cbds.free.fr.
It should evolve soon. :)

I don't use the PAFS functionnality anymore, so compatibility should be improved. Instead, a FAT access is performed thanks to the new DLDI.

You are my hero.

Feel free to take all the stuff from http://homebrewcast.com/comic. No one contributed, so I stopped, but the files are still there. Also, they are like version 1.2 files, so they are a bit outdated. But still good content.

#116072 - Paco_777 - Sun Jan 21, 2007 6:15 pm

Thanks Mr Cow :)
We'll see if i have more luck.
The new .cbds format is easier to be shared. It might help.

Thanks for initiating the comic book share and keep up the good work with the Homebrewcast show !

great work on this gnese, however, it freezes when you go to the menu showing all of the images in the cbds file, when you click on any of the icons it freezes. I'm using a M3 miniSD.

Strange. :(
I've got some questions :
Are the main thumbnails displayed (at application start) ?
If you don't put any .cbds files in your card, can you navigate in the menus ?
If yes, have you got the same problem with the sample : http://cbds.free.fr/Fichiers/La%20Vie%20De%20Norman.cbds ?
Have you patched the program with a corresponding patch here : http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/DLDI/

The DS only freezes on the screen with the 10 thumbnails and I use the touchscreen to click on the icons in the corner. If I use buttons, everything works as it should.

I guess, beginning of February.
I'll be busy the 2 next weeks, and anyway, i have to wait for the release of the directory support in devkitpro R20.

Thanks.
Then I guess it might be a bug in my part. I'll have to check that, (but it won't be easy, since i can't reproduce the problem).

I had the same issue last night but thought it was an error on my part. If I wait for all the thumbnails to load, I can click the arrow without issues. If I try to press the arrow icon while the thumbnails are still loading, there's a chance it will freeze.

That said though, awesome release! Glad to see the new version finally come out. The application is very professional, and you somehow improve it each release. Great job.

I'm having some problems...

I have a M3 DS Simply and I patched the .nds file with the appropriate DLDI lib, I put everything in the root folder of my microSD and renamed the comics 1. and 2.

When the app loads everything seems to be working fine except for the fact that the touchscreen does not work at all. I can navigate through using the buttons but I would very much love to be able to use the tuchscreen. Has anyone else had this problem with an M3 Simply or R4, if so, is there a fix?

EDIT: I also tried an unpatched version of the nds and returned an error about FAT.

EDIT: I should add that the latest version of Warcraft Tower Defence also had this problem when the developer released a DLDI version, has something in the libraries changed that is breaking DLDI compatibility?

#116911 - ronyap - Tue Jan 30, 2007 10:51 pm

I am having the EXACT same prob. Touch screen not responding at all. Although, my touchscreen was working earlier on. I have absolutely no idea what caused this. And I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a fix.

Thanks

Taken from the comments of the Tower Defence blog (http://ndswtd.wordpress.com/), which is having the same problem...hope this helps.

Quote:

FWIW, I can confirm that the M3 Simply DS has problems because of the PALIB: I?ve patched other homebrews and seen them work in a limited fashion or not at all. In particular, the touch screen functionality doesn?t work, even if the game or app does run.

#116991 - ronyap - Wed Jan 31, 2007 5:11 pm

Thanks. But, can anyone confirm this? Has anyone got a M3 Simply with ComicBookDS and with a working touchscreen?

#117050 - scratch2k - Wed Jan 31, 2007 11:23 pm

That was more for the developer so he could have some clues to figure out how to fix the code, rather than you. It seems everyone with an M3/R4 is having the same problem with tower defence, I've not heard of anybody getting it to work. I suspect that until they figure out why, ComicBookDS will be the same.

Touch screen, X/Y buttons, sound and/or wifi not working is a sign that the ARM7 is not responding. Some programs are likely to crash as well when an entire CPU fails.

Just got a DS Lite, nothing freezes now. The grey border wasn't flickering when I did it on my DS Phat. Must have been a problem with CPU power or something.

EDIT: Pressing the left/right arrows when the thumbnails haven't loaded doesn't cause freezing either...

The just released V2 (final) should fix your touch screen problems :D

I checked your site and this thread not 10 minutes ago and was broken hearted when nothing was posted, and now this, woohooo, thanks!

(testing on M3 Simply now, will post results).

EDIT: Works great, I love it. A really well written piece of homebrew. Thank you!

#117480 - EgoDemens - Mon Feb 05, 2007 2:13 am

This isn't working on my M3 Lite Perfect + Kingston microSD 1G.

I converted a comic, copied it into the root of my card along with the ini files and the .nds. When I load it with start (as it freezes the DS before loading anything when I use a) after a long pause, it speaks it's greeting then prints "Fat Access not supported."

With beta5 the borders would shimmer and I could move around the interface at this point but now with the final it just freezes.

Following Gnese's instructions on his comicbookds page I have also tried patching the .nds with m3sd.dldi and m3sd_alt.dldi found on chishm's dlditool page. Neither patched version works, they both act the same as the raw .nds version with the exception of loading instantly.

#117631 - dantheman - Tue Feb 06, 2007 2:58 am

Can't believe I missed this yesterday. I saw the post but didn't realize that v2 final meant that we no longer had to rename every file. Sweet.

Awesome job, and thank you for the hard work. This has become a very professional and incredibly useful application.

#162962 - HyperHacker - Wed Sep 17, 2008 4:49 am

Is this still active? I just tried it and I think it's a fantastic program, though the Linux conversion scripts are a bit wonky. (The GUI version appears to work, but doesn't produce an output file. The command-line version crashes if one of the image filenames has a space in it. I'm also a bit confused why you need to zip up the images only for it to unzip them again...)

Minor bug, there's a glitched line across the diagonal of the screen in portrait mode when you scroll around.

Anyway, great program. Much better than other image viewers I've used.
