DS development > Wifi Vs. Inet

#128873 - Mayne - Wed May 16, 2007 6:01 am

Ok, I tried googling the two, but I never found out the difference between the two of them.

Does anyone know?

What exactly do you mean by 'wifi' and 'inet'?
Are these buzzwords or parts of a code library or something?

I know what these two words mean to me, but let's just get a bit of context first :-)

There two apps that can connect the NDS online.

You have no idea do you?

Wifi is a wireless connection used for the NDS to play games online or talk to friends online, using Wifi. Inet is something else that I don't know, which is why I am asking about Inet and the differences.

if it's the inet I'm thinking about, then you lost me completely.

No, you said:

Quote:

Which I can take either way:
1) there ARE two apps that can connect the nds online
2) THEY are two apps that can connect the nds online

I know for a fact that there are more than two apps the DS which use the networking stack, so I erred with the second option.
I hadn't heard of homebrew programs for the DS with those names, so had assumed you were talking about something else?

And I know plenty about networking thank you.

Please give more context with your question and you'll get proper answers.

Wifi: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wifi
Internet:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet

Are you talking about the NDS Wifi Connection ? If yes, except the DS Browser all DS Games work with server, therefore: WITH INET !

WiFi provides a Wireless Connection to the internet. It's a wireless technology.
Your DS --> WiFi Router --> Internet

A wired situation would be like:
Your PC --> Modem/Router --> Internet

By the way, the internet is not a software application nor is wifi. In the sense that you can't "run" them.

Ok thank you, I didn't know how to explain it, I see so many posts on this stuff, it starts to confuse me. Someone asked me one day am I using Wifi or Inet? So I got confused.

Even worse, WiFi doesn't get you online (to inet), although it is being used as the label for NDS games to indicate that it will. They should have used another term for "online play" or something simular..
