ok, two things. first, is dragonminded still there? and if he is, do you care if i post a new source code? and, second, anyone still want video? what needed to be fixed in 3.2?

#155707 - tepples - Sat May 03, 2008 12:41 am

Under the GPL, go ahead and mod it. Some dos and dont's:
  • Do credit DragonMinded, as he still owns copyright in the program.
  • Don't call your product DSOrganize for the sake of avoiding confusion.
  • Don't post any major software that you're not willing to maintain.

ok, just making sure. i have to see about arm 7 video. i have to find out how much ram he was using, and go from there. i always wanted video. and, don't worry about maintainence. i think i can do that. ok, time to go check the source again. dragonminded was an angry person.

edit: anyone else still have the source code? dragonminded's site is virus'd

#155909 - Lynx - Mon May 05, 2008 3:45 pm

[quote]dragonminded's site is virus'd[quote]

Virus'd how? I just downloaded and scanned all the source .zips and didn't come up with anything and my virus defs are from May 2nd, 2008.

his site was exploited and had malware on it for a little while. it ended up on some blacklists, people like google, firefox phishing filter, etc now block his site. I assume eventually they will recheck it and take him off the list, but who knows.

#155951 - nsm333 - Tue May 06, 2008 1:20 am

as far as i know, it still has maleware. it tried to install stuff on my computer.

#156041 - Lynx - Tue May 06, 2008 4:12 pm

malware != virus

What are your criteria for something being labeled a virus? The lines between malware, virus, worms, and trojans these days seems quite blurry. Either way, if dm's site is trying to install stuff on your pc, sounds like he didn't really clean everything off.

#156060 - nsm333 - Tue May 06, 2008 9:03 pm

he even says on his main page that its been hacked. malware!=virus

Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent.

A computer virus is a computer program that can copy itself and infect a computer without permission or knowledge of the user.

#156129 - HyperHacker - Wed May 07, 2008 2:03 am

I think the technical terms are:
Malware: Does undesired but not destructive actions (slow down the system, abuse your Internet connection, etc).
Virus: Breaks things.
Worm: Spreads from one infected machine to another.
Trojan: Malware/virus/worm disguised as a legit program.
Spyware: Legit program, but sends personal information to someone.
Adware: Legit, but has ads (sometimes even popping up when it's not running).

Of course the lines are quite blurry - most worms and a lot of adware is also malware, trojans are often viruses, etc. Few people actually know/care about the specifics. I mostly just call it all viruses or malware. I don't care precisely what it intends to do to my machine, all that matters is it's something I don't want. :P The only real important distinction is between malware and bugs, as a buggy program may do seemingly malicious things by accident.

(Also, this is getting way off topic.)

#156208 - nsm333 - Wed May 07, 2008 6:57 pm

ok, good. someone else, too. oh yeah, dragonminded's site is fine. i think. i was just there. no more viruse/malware/adware/worm/trojan/thingies.

I have a couple questions about DSOrganize source.

1. What version of devkitARM is used for compiling?

2. Is it required by GPL to release source of modified projects?

2. Yes

1. last i checked, a horribly old version, a pity DM can't be bothered to update it

2. you are only required to give source to people you give the binaries to. so if you only use the .nds files yourself, no need to post the source online

#156261 - wolped - Thu May 08, 2008 3:15 am

r17? I new it was an outdated version he used, but wow. I guess I won't be doing anything with the source anytime soon then. And can't wait to see what new releases of DSO you guys will make; you have my support (and probably many others). And thanks for the answers.

#156947 - nsm333 - Fri May 16, 2008 7:02 pm

just so that someone who cares knows, i am going to try to work on it this weekend. who knows if i can fix anything, if the source is as messy as moonshell.

I got a suggestion:

Could you please use the birthdayrelease and work/fix it from there ? (I can?t know, but still say it because most major bugs occured there and no really new major features where added since then).

I recall hearing that DM couldn?t port it to a newer Devkitpro, because features weren?t implementable with the newest version of devkitpro back then.

One bug that I've encountered is that the D-pad doesn't control the cursor in the rename function of the Browser in ver 3.2. It did control the cursor in ver 3.1129.

I would like to see that fixed.

#157766 - wolped - Thu May 29, 2008 12:19 am

I had that problem too. It's gone now, but I'm not sure how it got fixed...

At one point in time I had both DSO 3.2 and 3.1129 on the card at the same time using the 3.2 folder. Maybe it got fixed when switching between the two?

#157768 - striderx - Thu May 29, 2008 1:14 am

Hmmmm....

I deleted all files in the root and the entire DSOrganize folder on my microSD card when I've gone back and forth between the two versions.

Perhaps trying a freshly formatted and configured card will affect a change.

You might also have created a hybrid of 3.2's nds file and 3.1129 config files that allowed it to work.

Too many variables... my brain hurts. :)

Any progress so far forking DSO?

I just got a flashcard and I'd really like helping out develop DSOrganize, however all attempts at compiling have failed miserably.

(latest error is complaining on curtime being undefined)

Quote:
/home/John/Programs/devkitpro/DSOrganize/arm7/source/main.c: In function 'VblankHandler':
/home/John/Programs/devkitpro/DSOrganize/arm7/source/main.c:321: error: 'TransferRegion' has no member named 'curtime'
/home/John/Programs/devkitpro/DSOrganize/arm7/source/main.c:383: error: 'TransferRegion' has no member named 'curtime'
/home/John/Programs/devkitpro/DSOrganize/arm7/source/main.c:321: warning: unused variable 'ct'

Yeah, I'm using Linux, that should complicate things a bit more for me.

#159081 - tepples - Wed Jun 25, 2008 4:28 am

For one thing, anything that uses the 'TransferRegion' will eventually need to be updated to use newlib/libnds equivalents such as <time.h> so that we can get onto a reasonably modern ARM7 binary.

I'm trying to compile DSO 3.2 with actual libs (devkitARM, libnds, libfat and dswifi) on my linux system.

The curtime attribute was moved into another struct (inside of libnds), you can access it by using ->time.curtime. Afterwards there are some errors complaining about undefined POWER_CR, I found the declaration inside of nds/registers_alt.h, including it fixes the compile error.

Many other errors were fixed by replacing \ by / (the good old cross plattform problem)

I also compiled the libdt, libdf and libpicture from dragonminded.org and openssl. Now I'm stuck at the compiler complaining about missing ivorbis*.h (seems to be libtremor) and aacdec.h (didn't find this one yet).

I'd really like to help updating DSO.

AAC is an audio codec, used in m4a files. I searched for aacdec on Google and got some page on Helix Community. I'm guessing this program uses codecs from Helix's collection.

Nice. Now perhaps when you finish this you can modernize the Moonshell source code. I heard its that same kind of mess that this one was in!

oh guys, a word of advice if anyone besides me is still working on this.

make sure when updating to newer devkitASRm releases, remember to change gcc-arm-elf to gcc-arm-eabi
