DS development > Looking for a text editor (homebrew app)

#160555 - Reverse_Parn - Thu Jul 17, 2008 6:44 pm

Greetz all!

I've been enjoying DSOrganize. I like what DragonMinded has done so far. The only thing missing is a text editor that works like Scribble.

Anyone know of a homebrew app like this? I envision a keyboard on the bottom, and the text on the top screen. L and R for "Save" and "Back".

It would be nice to jot some notes down in my DS...

Thanks

I've looked, I don't think there is one right now.

For now I'm using the Nintendo Internet Browser. It has a button for Favorites, so I create a new favorite, type in my note and hit save.

It works OK for now.

Note: There is a text "drawing" tool on Scribble.

I'm looking for a text editor that can open a file, let me scroll through, change some text and save it.

If there isn't one, I will consider writing one. :)

That looks good!

Does it work with the R4?

It doesn't seem to work with my R4...

For instance, any time I try to select a file or save a file, it attempts to open a dialog box...

but the dialog box only shows the bottom half on the bottom screen. Nothing of the dialog box shows on the top screen (where the dialog text would show).

Here's what I'm doing for now: I open DSOrganize and use the text tool in Scribble Mode. works good.

Then I use OCR software on my PC to convert the BMPs to small text files.

:O

Try this version: http://gtamp.com/DS/txtwriter_0.3.2.zip

It still uses gba_nds_fat instead of libfat but it's a DLDI compatible gba_nds_fat. It really needs to be converted to libfat or replaced entirely with a better editor.

DSOrganize has this. From the file browser, select a .txt file and press Y.

Neat! Works great.

TxtWriter doesn't clear out VRAM at startup, so it doesn't work with certain loaders (screen covered in junk). I don't suppose anyone's fixed that?
