That's very good. But, what about Europe.... :( ;)

#26614 - Fatnickc - Tue Sep 21, 2004 7:16 am

But still, that is only ?84.03 for me..

#26617 - keldon - Tue Sep 21, 2004 11:14 am

Which really means ?99

#26623 - ampz - Tue Sep 21, 2004 12:48 pm

Yeah, and SEK1495:-
:-(

Screen looks nice & clear from the icons on the lower screen.

I'm in the UK too, so may wait, may import (customs & delivery will eat up any savings made on the exchange rate).

It's often $1 == ?1 rather than 'exchange rate + a bit' so don't be surprised at a ?149.99 UK launch price (which is a bit on the expensive side).

Thinking about it, I'll need a killer app or the ability to program for it before I get onboard I think...

#26631 - zazery - Tue Sep 21, 2004 3:52 pm

Wow this was certainly the suprise for me! I wish November 21st was tomorrow already.

#26632 - Fatnickc - Tue Sep 21, 2004 4:59 pm

Yep.. with the GBA SP down to its low, ?99.99 might be the obvious price, after all, even though we know it isn't 'just a handheld' some might still percieve it as an expensive game boy or something.

Ditto. I'm looking at ~$200 for a "killer app" and a unit. I figure more for a unit and a 'hobby dev kit'.

Is there some kind of internet access in PictoChat or are they expecting people to PictoChat with people within WiFi range? (It is wifi isn't it?)

I think they mean within 100 meters depending on the conditions. However I do remember reading that you can connect that through wi-fi possibly.

Yeah, I think I will import one into australia instead of waiting until early next year, as long as I can confirm no regioning.

Has (lack of) regional lock out been confirmed?

-Brendan

#26705 - zazery - Fri Sep 24, 2004 4:54 am

No, but maybe on October 7th they will give that information out to the press. If not I'm sure after the DS launch in Japan we will know for sure.

#26707 - MumblyJoe - Fri Sep 24, 2004 5:57 am

Well, people are speculating there is no regioning because PictoChat has a language menu, and also because Game Boy's (I know it's not technically one but don't argue) have always been region free.

If I can import one and play import games months before they are released here, then buy games here, I will be wrapped.

Apparently the SP charger works with them so I shouldn't have any problems with an import.

Is it just me, or does the DS pictured in that link look odd... Sort of a cross between the "new" DS and the E3 model. I like!

Is the Japanese launch date known at this point?

-Brendan

#26762 - DiscoStew - Sat Sep 25, 2004 6:26 am

I think they said December 2nd or 3rd was the Japanese release date for the DS.

Location: Australia

Stuff often hits Japan and the USA, then Europe, then New Zealand and Australia.

Unfortunately Australia is considered to be part of Europe by alot of game / hardware companies.

I understand why Australia gets every Nintendo console far later than the rest of the world, manufacturing demands are high for better countries, so we have to wait for more to be made.

Rumors are Aus may have to wait until APRIL 2005!!! for the DS, and I say that sucks, but lucky I have a visa and a link to lik-sang :-)
