DS development > CVS system

#30628 - Sukanu - Thu Dec 02, 2004 10:35 pm

I coudent really find a spot for this anywhere else in the fourm, and this is the only section i frequent and am hopeing it gets developed for dsdev.org

gbadev.org needs a web cvs system, its a great learning site but with these new discoverys being done its hard to keep up with the latest code. it also would greatly orgnise the site in finding diffrent projects.

i think the best way is make it annon. download and just have to regester to upload. I think somthing like this should deffently be implmented when dsdev.org goes live.

if you want to see a good example of this used well go to ps2dev.org

Screw CVS, use Subversion.

I thought you meant CVS as in Atari CVS/2600...

#30636 - Sukanu - Fri Dec 03, 2004 12:45 am

sorry, for all that do not know a CVS is a Concurrent Versions System. what it allows is sourcecode and binarys to be posted in a directory format, and allows tracking of changes to that code, so you can see previous versons. also another nice feature is in linux(which at this rate seems to be the best OS for hacking the DS) can automaticly download the latest verson of the sorce at compiletime.

i agree CVS == bad,, subversion == REALLY GOOD.
i use/adminstrate subversion repositories everyday at work.

#30638 - Sukanu - Fri Dec 03, 2004 1:03 am

fine, subverson is better, the point i am trying to me is we need SOMTHING, the more information that is shared between people the faster the development will go.

CVS is a drug store/convenience store ;)

I just set up CVS and the SmartCVS client, and it's been a huge improvement over what I had been doing. I'll have to take a look at that subverion though, you've got me really intrigued.

I think CVS is really great and I have no problems with it. It's a great versioning system in my opinion. I use it with wincvs and Eclipse and with tags, branching and merging it has everything I need.

But I don't know subversion. Can you provide a link with information? Is subversion commercial software or is it free, like CVS?

Hi guys,

Anybody here has feedback on GNU TLA (Tom Lord Arch)? If I were to switch to a new CM system, I'd go for a complete rewrite, as is TLA.

As for subversion it is free software, CVS concepts are kept, limits are overcome : http://subversion.tigris.org/

Thanks for the link. Subversion seems to be very intressting and powerfull. But I think I'll stick with CVS at the moment cause I work much with Eclipse wich comes with integrated CVS Support. I also think that CVS is the more used Versioning system at the moment.

That's CSV, Comma Separated Values. Man, this is getting confusing. :)

Most probably in your head.

CSV - comma separated values
CVS - drugstore, or Concurrent Versions System
SCV - Terran peasant in Starcraft
SVC - Supervisor mode on ARM
VCS - Video Computer System, most commonly Atari's model 2600
VSC - Vermont State College system
SVN - Subversion
TLA - three letter abbreviation, or Tom Lord's Arch

Carry on making your jokes...

the powers that be have alredey seen this topic, so let the sillyness begin.

CVS stands for Constantly Vindacated Stockholders.
