As I have mentioned, this is all in flux!
As of 2.x, it's a completely new installer. In fact, now there are two: a web-based (160KB) and an offline installer (8MB).

This may be alot to ask but could a mac os x compatible version be made in the next couple of updates or whenever
but i would really appreciate it

Wow! Another OSX user :)
I've got an enviroment up and running in OSX, and am writing a tutorial for OSX and othe *nix users as we speak. It will be available (hopefully) tonight at:

Basically, all you have to do is download all the files, change some makefiles around and edit the install script, and bang it works.
First though you need to install the developer tools. You should either have a developer CD or it should be included on your install DVD.
