IGN states there are to be free DS downloads at E3. It would be uber cool if someone could do a bit of packet sniffing at E3 or anything of that sort.
http://ds.ign.com/articles/613/613078p1.html
Since they are free, and probably game demos, I don't see any reason it would be immoral or illegal to share this over the net, if it is possible.

Is it true you have to be invited to go to E3?
I've heard so little about E3 itself.. just about what's going to and has been there..

Would be awesome for those who can't be at E3.
I hope they are doing the same at the Games Convetion because I will definitly be there :)

Nintendo has mentioned that games, video, and other surprises will be made available for wireless download. |
DS can have video sent to it and downloaded to play, I wonder what format, or if it will have a player too

You can be invited, but you don't have to be. Industry professionals and the media can just register at e3expo.com.

How does one become an "industry professional"? Isn't that by invitation only as well?

I don't see any reason why anybody couldn't go to e3:
http://www.e3expo.com/attendees/attendee_registration.asp
As long as you don't mind paying 300-500$ (depending on how much you want to see)
I think with invitations you don't have to pay? Correct me if i'm wrong.
#42725 - mymateo - Sat May 14, 2005 8:24 am
to josath and tepples
To my understanding, you have to be invited, or be part of the video gaming industry in a professional capacity, and you have to be able to prove it. In other words, managers (and possibly workers) in a video game store would be allowed to go as long as they can prove (1) they do actually work there and (2) it's valuable information they would benefit from in their jobs. E3 is there to arm people with information regarding the latest and greatest stuff so that they can sell it.
And I know nothing regarding the costs of it.
And that's my $0.02, and I therefore make no claims to the accuracy of this information.
Cheers! :)

So how do I get an invitation to "be part of the video gaming industry in a professional capacity"? All I get is "Sorry, we went with another candidate."

Sorry, but my best answer is to kiss some serious ass of someone who knows they are going and drop hints over the next year that you must go or your heart will stop beating. That's what I would do. But I don't know anyone who's going, except the piss-head manager of my local EB. He's a total jerk. I wouldn't want to go with him.

You don't need a RT2560 card to sniff NDS multiboot games. Only to broadcast them. If someone does have a chance to sniff multiboot games then be sure to capture a lot of traffic. Even when I have near optimal conditions (no interference) it takes me at least two tries to get a complete capture that can be pieced together from different multiboot sends.

I can confirm that. You almost always need at least two captures from the same game/demo to extract a complete set of multiboot binaries (header, arm9, arm7, rsa). The recommended number of same-game captures is FIVE, don't ask me why, it's a nice number :)
#42941 - lambi1982 - Tue May 17, 2005 3:08 am
would it be a problem if say they ( the Big N ) has many different games being sent simultaneously, would it just screw everything up, and second, what if they know what can be done now and are broadcasting dummy signals that can in some ways scramble the data.
Is there ways to get around this, or is it even a problem???

No because the DS has a way to figure out which packets belong to which download play send. We can use that same information to rebuild the multiboot code from the capture.
Now you need many captures because when a DS misses a packet is asks for it to be retransmit. Since a sniffer is observing the conversation it can only listen. In the event a sniffer misses one of the packets it cannot request it to be resent without interrupting the download. So with many captures you keep finding missing packets from different transmissions until you have a complete set.

And for whoever it was that asked, yes, the Meteos demo is different, in that it is in english rather than japanese...other than that it looks to be exactly the same.

This stuff seems totally radical. I would like to run this stuff wirelessly from a laptop, but I've looked on the 'compatible network cards" list on firefly's site and it doesn't show my Linksys "WPC54G". Is there any chance that this card might be compatible anyways? If not, why is it that I cannot broadcast DS software straight from my wireless router?
#43519 - tepples - Tue May 24, 2005 2:46 am
Your wireless router can't talk to your Nintendo DS system because they speak different layer 3 protocols. Commercial wireless routers speak IPv4, but Nintendo DS firmware speaks Ni-Fi.

Here's a simple script I use to play games:
\nds\wmb\kiosk.cmd
Code: |
cmd /v:on /C ";
cd data
set LIST=
for %%i in (*.nds) do @set LIST=%%i;!LIST!
echo %LIST%
cd ..
:loop
wmb -player %COMPUTERNAME% -data "%LIST%"
goto loop
|
Thought other might like this too if they have friends around a laptop.

Your wireless router can't talk to your Nintendo DS system because they speak different layer 3 protocols. Commercial wireless routers speak IPv4, but Nintendo DS firmware speaks Ni-Fi. |
The WPC54G is a PCMCIA card.
Not that it helps his case much, it doesn't have a supported chipset.

That runs wmb again as soon as the last one finishes? Very nice, that will be handy at my DS parties.

In fact, I think that script will make the demos to be transmitted all at the same time so you can choose what one you'd like to run from the DS Download feature :D
The thing about that multi-demo ROM is that the Darkain's loader used there probably is a modified and/or private version.

Great idea, but it gives me an error under Windows XP. It doesn't know "!LIST!". Any workaround?

This is whet the first line of the script is for...
It enables delayed variable expansion with the /V:ON flag.
Just copy that exact code block into file named kiosk.cmd in your wmb dir
#43596 - Filb - Wed May 25, 2005 12:52 am
Hmm, I did copy the entire thing. I'm sure I made a simple mistake somewhere, it's not really my best day today...
Well, this is my command prompt output:
Quote: |
D:\WMB>cmd /v:on /C ";
D:\WMB>cd data
D:\WMB\data>set LIST=
D:\WMB\data>for %i in (*.nds) do @set LIST=%i;!LIST!
D:\WMB\data>echo electroplankton_demo_e3_2005.nds;!LIST!
electroplankton_demo_e3_2005.nds;!LIST!
D:\WMB\data>cd ..
D:\WMB>wmb -player DNB -data "electroplankton_demo_e3_2005.nds;!LIST!"

Okay sorry for crappy cmd scripting....
Please PM me for further details or start a new thread if there are that many people interested?
Here's the fixed code:
Code: |
@echo off
set delayed_variable_expansion=
if (!delayed_variable_expansion!) NEQ () goto enable_delay
cd data
set LIST=
for %%i in (*.nds) do @set LIST=%%i;!LIST!
cd ..
:loop
wmb -player %COMPUTERNAME% -data "%LIST%"
goto loop
:enable_delay
cmd /v:on /c kiosk.cmd
|
Please note the script must be called kiosk.cmd and be in the wmb directory

Maaaybe a little off-topic, but I figure you guys have played it more than most. In 'Operation 2' on the Trauma demo, what do you do once you've sucked the blood away from the big gaping wounds? They seem to be unhealable.
#43656 - Extreme Coder - Wed May 25, 2005 2:06 pm
Yeah me too, I am stuck on that part where you suck the blood in opreation 2 from the lungs(or whatever)
#43669 - krunkster - Wed May 25, 2005 4:33 pm
drain the wound
use the tweezers to clamp the wound (pull one side to the other)
stitch the wound
The rest is fairly easy...

Sorry, but does this card really work?
ASUS WL-107G
Then I would buy it :)

Since it's on the list, it should work.

Can i use the 15mb file (5 E3 demo's and 3 Japanese + Polarium) with the Passme?
#43846 - mymateo - Fri May 27, 2005 8:11 am
Yes, you can. As long as you have a flash cart that can hold it... which I don't... thank goodness for hex editors and people putting the good demos at the beginning of the file...
Anyways, because it all uses a bootloader you don't have to worry about the size, so enjoy!
#43869 - -Murdock- - Fri May 27, 2005 3:07 pm
Thanks for your reply :).
The "enjoy" part need to take a while though, I still need to buy a Passme. What's the difference between the GBC and PCI connectors?
#43870 - Filb - Fri May 27, 2005 3:24 pm
What makes PassMe better than FlashMe?
Does PassMe have any advantages FlashMe doesn't have?

Either will work the same. The PCI connectors are unshielded wires without any kind of cover, and they basically press down on the pins for the DS cart. The GBC connector is a covered connector with, essentially, PCI connectors on the inside. I use the PCI connector version and it's great. You might want to get that one because it's cheaper and you only need the PassMe to setup FlashMe these days.

FlashMe's advantage is to allow wifi-ing unsigned code.
PassMe's advantage is to let your DS untouched (ie no risk of losing it when flashing it). Anyhow, flashing is easy and fast. Just charge your DS or plug it.
#43876 - FourScience - Fri May 27, 2005 3:44 pm
Yes. Both accomplish the same thing, and as cocole says, but the PassMe let's you run homebrew of the GBA cart without modifying the firmware. FlashMe IS a firmware update, requires a PassMe or WiFiMe to install, but it then allows you to run homebrew code using wireless multiboot. With FlashMe you also don't need to keep the PassMe plugged in, the DS automatically checks for homebrew programs in the GBA slot and boots it if it's present, and loads the regular DS boot screens if you don't (or if you hold Select).
I'm starting to think we should have a 3rd board for Newb Questions, so people can ask simple/uneducated questions without cluttering the more advanced discussions.
EDIT: Yes, other than this, no difference. If you already have your DS flashed then you're rocking. I consider FlashMe to be clearly better to use than PassMe, so long as you can get it installed once.

Other than that - no difference? I already flashed my DS.

No difference, except the PassMe would take some extra space and maybe even break.
