DS development > Emulators for DS

#42832 - Mr Snowflake - Sun May 15, 2005 12:23 pm

Are there already some real emulators to run on the DS, I mean real DS progs, not gba?
And maybe oftopic, but I couldn't find it on the psp pages: how do they already have a gb emulator on the psp, is it because programming the psp is much like programming for the ps2?

The PSP runs at 333 MHz. The GBC runs at 8 MHz. A speed factor of 40 is enough for a simple port of even a relatively inefficient emulator.

No, that's not what I mean. They only got the psp booting homebrew games for a couple of days and the already have gb emulation.

Someone probably ported a limited version of SDL or Allegro or some other library whose only job is to talk to the frame buffer and the joypad, and then recompiled an existing Free emulator on top of that.

There's a calculator emulator for the DS. Isn't that enough for you? ;)

It's early days yet, hold yer horses.

I know mate, it's just a question you know?! It would be great to be able to play snes games on my ds. On the top screen, i would see the game and the bottom screen would show me the different games. I wish I was skilled enough to do this myself, but h?, I'm just starting to learn c :)
Edit: Oh and the ti emulator is great :)

For emulation the Psp seems to have gotten a head start....but doesnt it only work if you have a 1.0 psp?...so does that mean that Sony could release updates for your psp's software that could stop you from playing emulators?...I hope the Ds becomes a great emulator....btw the calculator is a really wicked function....people are acutally making non game specific software for it and thats going to make the ds even cooler than the psp....

This thread is getting dangerously close to the ubiquitous Console A vs Console B holy war.

Even with a plain old flash card, the GBA can play music.

As long as people still have the misconception that the PSP can play music and the GBA and Nintendo DS can't, there'll still be a necessity for setting things straight.

They've even released another patch, v1.51, for "security reasons", and won't let PSPs running v1.0 firmware play games released after last week.

So either you upgrade and lose all unencrypted abilites, or you have to buy another. A win-win situation.

Win-win for Sony?
