DS development > Testing DS code on Mac OS X ?

#44142 - fstark - Mon May 30, 2005 5:56 pm

Just playing with the idea of making some DS code for fun. Had a hard time getting devkitARM installed and working.

Stupid question for the mac devs out there. Is there a DS emulator for OSX, or should code be tested the hard way ? In that case, what hardware is needed, beside the DS ? (lost in all the passme, wifime, etc, etc options)

WiFiMe won't work unless you have an IBM compatible PC with Windows XP (dunno about Windows 2000).
  • You'll need a Nintendo DS, obviously.
  • You'll need PassMe.
  • If you bought a DS from Japan, you'll need a DS game (otherwise you can use the Metroid demo that comes with North American and European systems).
  • You'll need a flash cart capable of running GBA ROMs (not SuperCard). Check the (GBA) Flash Equipment section to see which ones work with Mac OS X.

Hi I have a working setup for mac
You need all the stuff tepples said but these are the mac specific things
1. A F2a or F2a Ultra card and linker cable are the only mac compatible cards still produced
http://www.binarygame.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/22/products_id/91

2. Passme from lynx's store
http://www.dspassme.com/oscommerce/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=31&osCsid=b98e878ae69a98a9de1e02b99a4857df

3. A gba or gbasp (f2a cards need a gba to write to the card)
check ebay if you don't already have one

When you have all that email me and i can help you get all set up

jstart -

I've been wanting to get started on some code for the DS as well, and I'm also on a Mac. Are there any good tutorials or other info you could recommend for starting out on a mac?

Thanks for the info - I'll be checking them out this weekend. Like you said on your blog - school comes first. After finals I'll finally have some time to get going on this.
