Simply because a good friend of mine who knows a friend whose friend got bored. Imagine 4 MB of RAM with this powerful... Whatever =P
P.S. The second friend is out of reach for me so I can't track him down.

That is hilariously well done. Regardless of whether it actually runs something, the graphics are cool enough.
And if in some bizarro universe of awesome this thing actually works, well... that would be icing on this already delicious cake.

I wanna see someone do A mac osx mock up!

Oh thanks everyone!
Because of the kind replies, my friend's friend's friend's (keeps going until someone lose track) decided to give out the ds.gba version:
http://www.kund.hemmanet.se/~lost/xpds.zip
This is very very alpha. It won't show anything else but the splash screen and sos screen. In the future it will go into FB mode and the BLISS background.
Remember it only works for sure on the real hardware. Emulators will either crash or show wierd colors.
Enjoy!

Crash on emulator eh? That still sounds like Windows to me.

Sure that's an OS? Looks like a shell to me. So far, the only OS on the DS is DSLinux.

To me, I won't consider it a true Windows until it crashes on the hardware, too.

When it comes to Windows, it's okay to make it a shell (it started out that way. Windows 95 anyone?). But hey, this is just a beginning. It looks like a splash screen to me.

Actually, I don't think Windows 95 was a shell. Windows 3.1 was, but Windows 95 didn't rely on a host OS installed/running in order to operate. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

Because they changed the name of MS-DOS 7 into Windows 95 Prompt, Windows 95 was an OS. So I agree. Also my favorite boot logo sequence (too bad I can't do that on the DS, and Windows XP's are much easier to produce... much cheaper) helped to convert the DOS startup into a more GUI friendly Windows OS.

I will add the blue stop screen. It's easy thanks again the the people behind the console in ndslib!

Programming Windows isn't verry difficult - you have to include only some error messages and the bluescreen.

I share your pain, Mr. Pickle.
I like to use subclassing in VB, but don't forget to remove the Stop button from your toolbar ;)

Why? The only thing needed is VGA scroll simulation during SOS boot.
Sure dosbox may be great for the console during CSRSS time. But the console will probably just have some simple file system commands anyway. Windows XP isn't designed for DOS users. It's designed to give annoying balloon tips and a huge start-menu. And that's what we want to see on the DS!
#47192 - josath - Wed Jul 06, 2005 7:27 am
someone port me a nice dosbox...i wanna play commander keen on my DS.

DOS Box only runs on X86 processors!

Dosbox is written in C++ and works like pretty much any other emulator by acting as an interpreter. There's no reason you couldn't port it to any platform you want, but I'm not saying it would run well without practically rewriting it. Because it wouldn't.

I want to see more added to this, this made me laugh so much.
Now I keep it in DarkStar to show everyone. I love when people use their imaginations when making apps for the DS, Darkstar being one of them.
Now to be honest with you, I would like to mix some together,
Darkain, would you please for the sake of the DS add the XP for DS to opening of Darkstar ( just as a test ) Please, please ;)
XP for DS boot screen -----> Darkstar ---> Lambi Happy ;)
I know what your responce will be, so I just thought I would Try, thanks anyways.

Tell that to somebody who implemented Tetris in shell script (no, not me) or Boxxle in sed (not me either).

But if you copy Microsoft Windows too much, then Microsoft's legal department might get angry when it starts looking too much like a Pocket PC. But then which came first: the chicken or the egg?

I guess that's from on spending too much time on DDREI.com. But in general, my posts make as much sense as the topic itself. Serious is met with serious; silly is met with silly.

So, what, now you want DarkStar to crash?? Windows has a way of crashing on anything, even if it's not on an x86 system!

I really would like to see a shell on Nintendo DS, call it DoSbox, WinS DS or whatever, but a 386/486 emu would ROCK (wanna play old conversational adventures on my DS :P)
Anyway, the boot screen rules, this evening I fooled some guys, when I switched on my console the first thing they said was "WOHA!! WIN XP!! Does it run Counter Strike:Source??!!" ?? lol
Greets and keep up the good work.

It is just the startup screen. If more people want the source, I will give it out.
