Finally had some more time to work on my I/O stuff for Misfit Model 3d. I still need to figure out what data structures I'm going to use for animation before I start on the export, but it will read the bone hierarchy from Metroid now.

Thanks again to mike260 for doing all the initial Metroid model investigation. If there's anybody out there who's done optimized quaternions for fixed point math give me a shout.

Is this Samus from the Metroid Prime Hunters demo!?!?! If so whats the poly count on her and what are her texture sizes?
#48459 - ecurtz - Wed Jul 20, 2005 5:54 am
Low detail Samus:
406 triangles
64x64x8bit gun texture
128x128x8bit suit texture
High detail (multiplayer? it has several colors) Samus:
662 triangles
same texture size
Low detail Metroid:
65 triangles
64x64x4bit texture
32x32x4bit texture
8x8x2bit texture
High detail Metroid:
144 triangles
same texture size
War Wasp:
166 triangles
64x64x8bit texture
64x64x8bit texture

Ecurtz all I can say is WOW!
Especially since its done on a mac.
I am totally downloading the 3d software you are using
It's compatible with your conversion tool right?

Yeah, multiple colors would be the multiplayer models.
But I wonder what the low detail model is for then? It has been awhile since I played it, but I don't remember any time you can see all of Samus other than multiplayer.

Don't you see the samus model for a short time when you change into a morph ball(like in Metroid Prime1+2)?
another guess would be a canceled online support?
Maybe the low-poly samus modell for online still remains in the game.
one more: How about encountering a "dark" samus like in Metroid Prime echoes?

They never planned for metroid to have online support, but it WILL have local multiplayer support over wifi.

It isnt any thing else other that the fact that you see her for a second no need for anything more, just enough for the effect......
People always assume there is some hidden reason behind something so simple....
" Hey joey look, my cell phone has these little numbers on the front of it, but they keep changing!!!"
" It must be for some super secret Quantum code generator that they left out"
" you idiots, its a clock"
" oh ;( "

The differently detailed models are for the multiplayer. When the other player is far away, the lower poly model is used. When the other player is very close to you, the higher poly model is used. You can actually see it happen if you play multiplayer and walk closer to each other very slowly. You will noticed at a certain point the other player's model suddenly swithches to higher detail.
Anyway, how the heck did you extract that model, and WHAT did you extract it from. I wanna try that. Could someone upload the model for download?

ecurtz: can you explain what you used to make the program and where your reference is? I am planning on writing a 3D Studio Max exporter for the DS 3d format and I need a point in the right direction. Once we have a proper modelling tool, I think DS 3D game development will be fairly simple. Also, there is a wealth of 3D assets on the internet that 3dsMax can open, so with a proper exporter we can see some real cool stuff on the DS. Please let me know, thanks.

The DS 3d models are on par with UT, minus shading, and insane tex quality, but it works well for the screen size. Now all we need it ragdolls. <3
Someone do a 2d ragdoll demo, like this. http://www.izpitera.ru/lj/tetka.swf
