Is there a possibility that someone can port 3D Realms "Rise of the Triad (ROTT)? It would be nice though :)
The source code is released and can be found here : http://www.apogeegames.com/files/rottsource.zip

I don't know cause it is based on a (VERY)modified "Wolfenstein 3D" engine.
Here are some interesting details of the engine:
Quote: |
Here are some of the things that are in the ROTT engine:
Multi level orthogonally based levels.
Room over room (sort of).
Transparency.
Textured Floors and Ceilings.
Dynamic Lighting.
FLIC support (although we never had any in the game).
CINEMATIC engine (also never used. The ending sequence is scripted but doesn't utilize the cool shit developed before hand).
11 player network support.
Masked Walls (Textures with holes in them).
Moving Walls.
Stairs (sort of) |
but I guess it shouldn't be a prob.(when you look at DoomDS or Yeti-engine for example)
If I remember right it was pretty gory and brutal, wasn't it?[/quote]

It was a totally crap game
boring level structure unlike hexen and heretic.
They ported it to the GP32 and it still stunk.

That's your opinion, Look. Only thing I didn't like was the time-limited godmode.
If Njoy thinks a DS ROTT would be nice, that's his opinion, and we all need something to do and learn stuff from, right kids?

RoTT was a blast when it came out.
Had a sense of humor that up until then had been missing from FPS games.
A DS port would be sweet...if I recall, the level editor was incredbly simple, since it was after all a Wolf3D-like engine. I wonder if there'd be a way to do that on the DS. Storage space is the only problem I immediately see.

Blood would be better

True, but that would require the source, and we don't have the Blood source. Only that of it's kin, Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior.

I find it odd that very few even seems to consider a port of Duke Nukem 3D.
If I remember it right, the game folder was less than 32MB in size. (remember because we had storage issues on our big harddrive back in the day, hah)

There's an official port to the GBA.

Yes ROTT or Duke Nukem 3D would be awesome! I needed to bring this thread back to life...

I know this has been in a lot of topics but, Shadow Warrior truely was an awsome game too.
Though I don't remember ROTT was so great when it came out.. Well we live in a different region so I can only speak for me.
Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior was one of my top games when I grew up, would be great to see it on the nds.
BTW the Duke Nukem GBA version sux. Shoot-em-up is meant to be played with a mouse, or something like it...Would be cool if someone could do a remake of it it to the nds with controls like GoldenEye - Rogue Agent.

Goldeneye had terrible controls. You had to use "The Crab" to control it. Metroid Prime : First Hunt is a better example. I would love to see Duke Nukem on NDS but I couldn't do anything about it ... I don't know C or C++

yeah goldeneye pretty much required the thumbstrap which my hands arent big enough for(or at least i assume thats why i find it hard when everyone else say its the best way).

There were different ways you can control Goldeneye. I used the Stylus control scheme. Anyway, something I'd personally like to see would be DoomDS. Yeah, I know it's already in the works, but I'd REALLY like a port of the old Doom, rather than a new version. Whatever the outcome, I hope that any homebrew FPSs will allow for custom level-making.

I used the stylus scheme too, else it's impossible to shoot straight.
You guys suck:P

If one were to port the Build engine (used by Duke, Shadow AND Blood as you probably already know) to DS, my upcoming Unkillable game can also be ported!
On a more on-topic note, a RoTT port would rock.
Especially if the Godmode time limit is removed ;)

Contributing to the on-topic-ness of this thread:
WOO HOO! A RoTT PORT WOULD BE COOLSOMIFICATIONICITYNESS!
