DS development > Software needed.. [EDIT: Image converter]

#60052 - mastertop101 - Sun Nov 06, 2005 7:00 pm

Hello, I would need a software to convert my 256 colors images into images with a total of 256 colors.. Per example, for 3 images of 256 colors, it will make 1 image of 102 colors, another one of 98 colors and another one of 120. I KNOW that is more than 256 colors, but some of those colors are repeated, so it uses 256 UNIQUE colors. Palette express can do it, but the free version is limited to 5 images at a time and 60 days. I hope it was clear.

Thank you.

Put all the images into one image, convert to indexed colour, save and split them up again. Then you have three seperate images with one colour palette.

That what I do too... works ok, but it's a pain if you add/remove some images after...

You could use imagemagick and a batch script on linux systems. I don't know of a free way to do it on Windows.

Hey, that GIMPShop thing is cool!

I'm pretty GIMP savvy, but most of the artists here at my day gig are Photoshop users.

I'm doing some Photoshop SDK work, and I'm running into a fundemental limitation that's keeping me from implementing some tools we need, and getting the artists to convert to GIMP, just to use these tools... ack!

So maybe GIMPShop could be the hybrid answer to the problem.

Re. the palette conversion, for paletted/tile-based work, I use "pro motion" from Cosmigo. It's not free, but it does have great features, including the ability to quickly produce palettes from multiple images/frames.
