DS development > Program for 3D Models

#64545 - Mr. Ploppy - Fri Dec 23, 2005 12:39 pm

Can anyone recommend a good FREE 3d modeling program suitable for DS development? I have a background with 3d Studio Max, but I no longer have access to that particular program. Anyone know of a suitable stand-in?

gmax is free, powerful and entirely based on 3dsMax

I think there is a free 3dsMax model converter out there with full source code release too

Hey, thanks for the swift reply. I'm downloading it now, looks like exactly what I was hoping for. I couldn't get it from the oficial site because "As of October 6, 2005, Autodesk will no longer offer Gmax? software as a stand-alone product.". They're asking people to consider purchasing 3DS Max 8 instead, what a joke! Fortunately it's still available at this site here if anyone else is interested.

Good question. It seems your best bet is to save it as an MD3, then convert it to an MD2 for use on the DS. I believe Webez has a very nice loader, full source too. :)
