For those that haven't noticed yet: http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/26/nintendo_announces_ds_lite/

I assume this is gonna have large firmware changes... anybody think we'll have problems getting code to run on this thing?

The big reduction in size also worries me a little... does this even have a GBA slot?

GBA slot is still there... but will there be a hole for the SL1? :)

If not im sure you can just keep stabing holes in your ds with a screwdriver until you find SL1

I'm pretty shure there will be one. Why? I guess, the DS gets flashed after it is assembled. This way, you can easily change the firmware before the DS gets shipped. If you flash it earlyer, you have a lot of ready-to-assemble flash chips or mainboards with a flashchip and find a bug in the firmware -> you have to ship a lot of "broken" units.

But i guess we will find out in few month.

Yeah, good point.

I'm absolutely *loving* the re-design and am hoping it will spark a second "buzz" for the Ninty DS.

Will also be a lot cooler to use for homebrew applications. E.g. VNC with the ugly DSv1 would be looked upon as "geeky". I'd feel a hell of lot more at home controlling my computer with this baby.

I really hope that if the new firmware does include the NWFC settings, We might be able to FlashMe vX and include those settings.

Tha'd be sweet!

I also hope PassMe 2 still works on the new model (I dont have PassMe 2, but I do have Passme1)

I don't like the look of the opened DS Lite very much.. The speakers and the area around the screens in particular put me off. In any case, this is good news, as it might lower prices of 2nd hand DSs, so I can hause my one for games, and possibly a second hand one for messing about with.

Putting the mic between the screens means probably a lot of spit going on them.

For ONCE I'd love a handheld to have a "hold" switch, like a walkman/mp3 player. It can't be that hard to make.

Whatever for? when the screens are closed, the buttons can't be pressed anyway? or am i misunderstanding you?

It probably means a new firmware and possibly even a new BIOS, or (stretching it) even a lack of SLOT-2 altogether. Now how are we supposed to break in? WiFiMe2?

There has been some speculation about this on the topic for the DS Lite on the DS misc forums.

Oooh, that thing is kinda hot.

I can't wait to see a real one and not just a mockup. Heh, Nintendo redesigns their handhelds and I fall for it almost every time. :P

If it'd be possible to FlashMe this baby I might just buy one when they are available. Only if it has the GBA slot though, I really doubt it'd not have one since Nintendo has already released, for example, a Rumble Pak that uses it, or in Japan there is the Band Brothers expansion cart.

Thats official concept, not a mock up.

And yes, it has a GBA slot and everything else the ds has.

The current DS hurts my hands when playing games for a while. I really don't like the current design. It should be light. I don't care about the size really.

In fact let's consolidate discussion there.
