#75202 - Slosha - Fri Mar 10, 2006 11:53 pm

Well i know im wayyyyyyyyyyy behind in the whole DS moding thing, but now i wanna get back into withthe DS Lite and all. I have a Movie Player version 2 (but i wanna get version 3). What would i need to play DS homebrew and tinker aroudnm to do all the really really sweet mods (like the GPS and the keyboard and controlling my computer with DS). PLZ HELP!!!

Also, can anyoen show me some really good links for really good DS mods/modders (im not sayign that this ISNT one but u know...)

To run homebrew on the DS lite or any other DS with firmware version 4 or later, you need a PassMe2-compatible game, a PassMe2 adapter customized for that game, and an M3, SuperCard, or traditional GBA flash card. If you're planning on buying an M3 CF, then do it now.

With FlashMe v6, you will also lose backlight brightness adjustment.

Yes Metroid Prime Demo is good, size doesn't matter. Do you have chishm's hack on the MP?

If you have firmware v1, you can buy an original PassMe and use it with First Hunt. Or if you have a PCI or PCMCIA wireless card with a Ralink chipset, you can use WiFiMe to boot the machine.

And you can use the same CF card that you used on the GBAMP v2.

Nope, what's chishm's hack? Also, can i buy a newer version of the Passme and have it work for both a regular DS and a new DS Lite? And can you show me the link to teh Ralink Chipset page?

#75691 - tepples - Wed Mar 15, 2006 5:53 am

Chishm's GBAMP page explains, and so does this PHWiki page.

PassMe2 is worthless unless you have a flash cart with SRAM.
Go with PassMe1 and your GBAMP. That is more than enough for most homebrew.

Well would i be good if i got the Passme2 (if it works for both the old DS and the new DS Lite that's coming out), a Ralink wireless card (i still need that link), and M3?

Also, how do u get flash carts with SRAM? And why are they important? for internet viewing?

Why do you want a Ralink wireless card? You don't need to WMB things anymore. M3 has SRAM, don't worry about it. Get a PassMe 2 (or PassKey 2 from Natrium42, or PassMe2 Z [imo best]). Get the M3, and a CF card. You need to write this code thing of the game you are using to the SRAM of the M3... someone will tell you about that as I'm not sure.

Unless you're trying to test a program without having to yank the M3, yank the CF, insert the CF into the PC's writer, drag the .nds file over, close the window, right-click and choose Eject, yank the CF, insert the CF into the M3, and insert the M3 into the DS.

Which is better, Passme 2 or Passkey 2? What's the difference? Can i do the same things on both? Is it really necessary to get the M3 if i have the GBAMP v2? umm...... sofar i got this on my "things to buy list"

Passme2 or Passkey2?
Ralink Chipset
(I have GBAMP v2)
Ummm... anything else?

Edit: Also, are there any negative side-effects of using Passme and all that stuff (besides loosing the warranty, which i already did when i spraypainted my Ds gold..... i regret it...)

Oh and the GBAMP2 doesn't work with PassMe2...

A PassKey2 is a commerically packaged PassMe2... I think

Correct on both counts. You need a flash cart with SRAM to use 2-series Pass devices.

well since i need to have passme2/passkey2 for use on a DS Lite, then how do i get SRAM?

If i get a Passme2/passkey2 then can i use it for both my DS (v1) and a DS Lite?

A lil' off-topic but: If i import a DS Lite, will it only run japanese games?

SuperCard, M3, or a traditional GBA flash card.

Yes.

Japan, North America, Europe, and Australia form a single region for lockout purposes on the Nintendo DS, but the warranty may not work outside the country of retail sale.

#76474 - Slosha - Wed Mar 22, 2006 1:08 am

Can anyone confirm that those cards work or that i can do the two things i want to do with one of the passkey/passme 2's.......heelllpppplllzzz

#76587 - Pullo - Thu Mar 23, 2006 12:16 am

I do not know about the first card, but the second one, the D-Link 510 won't work if you get the rev. C card (don't know about the earlier revisions?), it uses a RaLink chipset, but not the one that is used by wifime. So that one won't work, I've tried it. I got myself a Canyon CN-WF511 instead, and it works.

Also if you plan to use an M3 with Wifime, that might not work, you could check this thread out.

#76738 - Pullo - Fri Mar 24, 2006 2:48 am

Sorry, I'm from Sweden and bought it from a swedish store, and they only ship within Sweden. Hope you find it somewhere else, or that you'll find another compatible card.

#76789 - Slosha - Fri Mar 24, 2006 8:56 pm

how do i know if the card is 100% compatable?

EDIT: And also, should i get the M3/Passkey2 bundle (but i can't find the CF version in a bundle with passkey and i only have CF card...;(....) or should i get a supercard with passkey/me2. And can someone plz comment on which is better, the Passkey2 or the Passme2?

If you plan on ever using WifiMe, then maybe the supercard would be better, since the M3 don't work with WifiMe, but the M3 might me better on other things, I don't know.

hehe, I bought my Canyon CN-WF511 from mycom, would have been a cool coincidence. Or something.

The size of an SD card usually isn't a factor in whether it'll work. It's mainly the brand and whether the program supports SD at all.

#77617 - Slosha - Sun Apr 02, 2006 12:10 am

thank you!... any other answers?

#78223 - Slosha - Thu Apr 06, 2006 1:48 am
