I've never heard of "Ultra Media Card", so it probably wont support homebrew very well, so I'd recommend the Supercard between those two choices.

In general, you should purchase something that's well known by the community. That would be the SuperCard.

As a follow up question: Would it make sense to get the Max Media Dock? According to the description it looks like a no pass + easy to use flashcard writer to me... Or am I mistaken and need to get something else?

The UMC isnt bad, but they are right. Until the Ultra team is reconized and being sold on sites like winsunx, I would stay away. So I guess get a supercard, but I suggest a microSd. Unless it would save money cause you have a CF card already.
So supercard FTW.

I just read this over at maxconsole. http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=25581
The Max media thing is nothing more then a Movie Player v2.

Oh... All right. This whole homebrew business is very confusing, I must say.

Maxconsole is like PH: no rom links, no rom requests, just discussion of homebrew and piracy.
Back to topic:
I wouldn't recommend the MAX Media Dock for homebrew until the new libfat becomes stable. My recommendation depends on what kind of homebrew you want to run: Get a SuperCard to run full-size .gba or ds.gba; get a GBA Movie Player to run .mb.gba or or .nds.
