DS Flash Equipment > DS Lite - Particliy bricked -PLEASE READ

#117510 - dshacker - Mon Feb 05, 2007 6:22 am

Well I was flashing my NDSL, when I got to around 76% and it turned off, I had my power plug in as well, so Im guessing that it's not fully bricked, but when I tried to use the recovery mode, it would work. All that appears on my screens now are two black screens. So I'm wondering if it is bricked and can't be recovered except without fuzing the blown fuzes, or if its bricked, and I can recover it w/o having to hard mod it and use a soft mod.

Try using another Slot 2 device.

btw, what ever happened to your SSB game? realized "idea makers" weren't helping?

I tryed using another slot-2 device, but still no luck. :( - I wish I had my warrenty still, then nintendo would have replaced it for free.

Opening your DS voids the warranty. So simply by knowing you tampered with the firmware (IE, installing FlashME), your warranty no longer covers your DS.

Which devices have you tried? You might need to buy a GBAMP, they're pretty cheap. You'd need access to a working GBA or DS to install the firmware hack though.

Opening your DS is not necessary for bridging SL1. SL1 is under the (user-replaceable) battery door.

The DS Phat does have that sticker though, I imagine removing it voids the warranty as well. No such problem on Lite, so if you haven't actually opened the case, you're fine.

Except he says he no longer has a warranty anyway, so that's kind of a moot point. :-p

If you have good skillz like me, you can replace the sticker after shorting SL1. I used a pocket knife to very carefully remove it, then replaced it back in its original position.

Maybe I should rephrase...Sticking a metal object into an opening in the DS, while the DS is running unofficial code, to bridge two connections and therefore allow the overwriting of the official firmware, voids your warranty.

Nintendo honored the warranty for my silver DS with FlashMe stealth. In the United States, we have the Magnuson-Moss act, a statute that prohibits companies from conditioning a warranty on the use of other products specified by trademark or service mark. Nintendo would have to prove that the unlicensed hardware actually broke the DS first.

Well, Tepples, it appears that I was wrong, there does seem to be a way for you to get around shorting the SL1. Can Nintendo prove that he broke his DS by running unlicensed software? Or, if Nintendo cannot prove that this was the case, how will Nintendo react to finding out that the DS produces white screens? Especially with the DS having been around for over 2 years and not a single case of the DS simply producing white screens without any firmware tampering? Can Nintendo say that he used unlicensed software simply by eliminating any other possible problems?
