ICE Raid Targets Mod Chips

#136761 - tepples - Sat Aug 04, 2007 6:50 pm

Slashdot covered this story.

As far as I can tell, most of the modchip sellers that get raided have surpassed the Grokster threshold of inducement to infringe copyright. Notice how Datel never gets targeted: Datel products tend to be less useful for "backups", and Datel doesn't market its products for use with "backups", only for use with authentic copies (Freeloader/AR) and with homebrew games (GNM).

Except Datel's devices tend to be poorly supported and cheaply made, but thanks to the homebrew community, my Games n' Music is actually well supported (maybe not as much as the R4, but still very good) although the hardware is slow, but then again, GBAMP is fast and it doesn't support piracy either.
