DS Flash Equipment > Can the G6 DS cartridge reader read regular DS games?

#137993 - Coolarj10 - Sat Aug 18, 2007 8:56 am

If I stick a game any regular DS game cartridge into the G6 DS USB cartridge reader, will it be I be able to see the contents of the cartridge on my computer?

Thanks in advance!

It's not supported with the provided software. I would also like to know if it is technically possible.

Should be possible with custom drivers.

I see..but when you say "custom drivers" you mean I would have to program/code one myself? (I have absolutely no clue how to do that)

I was wondering because I want to see if I can read the New Super Mario Bros game data and compile new maps in the multiplayer mode!

Is this possible?

As far as I know, official DS cartridges are not rewritable, so even if you could modify the maps, you'd have no way of getting them onto the cartridge.

but can you edit a ROM file to do it?

Even if you could read carts, to make a hacked game with special maps, it'd require running a ROM of that game, which is illegal. I doubt you could use hacked or extra levels with an official cartridge.

Even if you did access the card, you wouldn't see friendly image formats for maps like you might be expecting, its gonna take some hardcore programming and hacking to write a level editor, and even then you could only run them from a modified ROM, which would require a backup, which is off topic to this site.

In fact, that's exactly what I plan to do to this topic.
