DS Flash Equipment > Firmware NDS file

[edited]

I found it:
Thread containing link

I can work out the rest of the questions myself I guess, atleast the thread will serve the purpose of letting others know it's available.

I swear I saw a launchable NDS file, containing the 'proper' NDS firmware, with pictochat and DS download play.

- Can I have a link?
- Does Pictochat/DS download play work?
- Does it still work if you flash your DS with FWNitro?

Cool...I can boot my GnM through the firmware, then boot the firmware from the GnM! Yeah, not incredibly useful unless you flash with FWNitro or something, but still cool (and cool to use DS firmware on an emulator). Probably still illegal to distribute it...but then again, FlashMe is distributed, and it's a firmware with a mod in it.

0_0 so you can boot games n music from the firware nds?

although i think a lite firmware would be more useful to change brightness settings.

i tried booting my gba slot cart and it worked.

Idk about booting stuff, haven't tried, but I will :) except I'm using my GBAMP right now, so it'll be from my GBAMP.

Edit: guess not, I booted my GBAMP (running DSO for a shell), swapped the GnM for WarioWare, then booted FIRMWARE.NDS, and it said no DS card inserted :( still, PictoChat works.

thats because the firmware has to be flashed to detect DS carts for some reason...

I assume it's the same reason why nitro-hax needs the slot-1 card to be re-inserted.

It's because of the encryption. The BIOS reads some info from the card and stores it in a fixed RAM location before setting the card to encrypted mode. Once it's in encrypted mode this information can't be re-read and the only way to return it to normal mode is to remove and reinsert it. Most loaders (including the firmware WMB client) will wipe this info out for various reasons, so you need to re-read it to boot the card, which means the card needs to be reinserted.

Heh, this gave me a neat idea though. If the card is already in encrypted mode, you could find some way (CRC32 of the ROM?) to uniquely identify it, and then use this identifier to look for a file on your memory card containing that info that can't be re-read. So you would only have to reinsert the first time, and save this info to a file. After that when the same card is detected, read it from the file again and there you go, no reinsert required.

This is interesting (I don't know about useful...but interesting...) however when I try to launch it, it just boots my system into GBA mode (which is not very interesting...but might actually be useful). Is this because I have my BIOS set to auto mode maybe?

EDIT: Why don't I just try turning off auto mode and see? Nah...

That doesn't always work for all users. For instance, I'm using FlashMe v8a with Automatic mode, so holding Start+Select boots the slot-1 cartridge for me. The only way I can access the BIOS is by ejecting my Supercard and hold Start upon bootup. This firmware image allows me to access the main features of the DS's BIOS without having to eject anything.

Shame there isn't a lite version.

Please bear in mind, distributing the official Nintendo DS firmware on a public FTP/HTTP server is _not_ legal.

well Olimar has it up on his thread to so I don't think its too much of a problem, especially since FlashMe is a hacked version of that firmware.
