Just wondering how many people still use GBAMP for running DS homebrew. I know there are a lot of other cards on the market, both slot-1 and slot-2 but GBAMP was one of the first for DS homebrew and I was wondering if it is still popular.

GBAMP is still the only thing I use. I've found it to be the most reliable for FAT access, at least using my antiquated library. I use G&M sometimes when I need to run two DSO tests on two ds's at once.

Yup, GBAMP is still my only GBA/DS homebrew device, and it'll probably stay that way unless there's a sudden price crash on all other cards, which coincides with an increase of stock and compatibility. I love my GBAMP because if one homebrew doesn't work using Mighty Max's GBAMP Multiboot loader, I can always just use MoonShell or DSOrganise.

Still using my GBAMP. Compatibility for homebrew is about 99% (That 1% is .ds.gba only homebrew) and hasn't failed me once. I've had a bad experience with slot-1 and haven't heard good reviews for slot-2 that will make me replace my gbamp.

supercard CF > gbamp.
it's front loading, so don't have to remove the cart to swap the CF. plus it's got 32MB of RAM, so you can run gba homebrew. and it's just as compatible as the GBAMP (haven't found a homebrew that wont run on it yet).
too bad they stopped making SC-CF :(

I first got GBAMP, then used supercard CF for a while - probably the 'best' I have, got a supercard rumble so i could keep some homebrew without things sticking out of my DS lite and finally got an R4 because my SCR died...
R4 has given me the best experience to be honest, with the auto-DLDI. I have Opera ram in slot-2, no idea if any homebrew is using it, but it's there.
GBAMP was just TOO BIG. Especially for a lite!

I use my GBAMP v2 CF a lot. I usually use my GnM (doesn't stick out) but I use my GBAMP for videos because it is faster, and I use it for GBAMP-only stuff, and I use it sometimes to get stuff on to my GnM without removing the microSD (and possibly breaking the slot) by copying from GBAMP to GnM using DSFile. DSLinux also works well on the GBAMP.

I generally use GBAMP for testing my own programs, but I more often use an R4 for running homebrew.

I use my GBAMP and DS Phat for developing, and my R4DS and DS Lite for playing. I find that CF cards are easier to handle and I like the ATA interface more than the SD interface.

*SHAMELESS PLUG** DSOrganize will boot .sc.nds or .ds.gba files on a GBAMP using mighty_max's modified loader that I updated. I've tested it with several .ds.gba files to make sure my own gbamp can load them.

I use GBAMP+phat for homebrew stuff, and lite+real cards for official games. Although I'm tempted to get an R4, because the phat+GBAMP is too big/heavy to carry around for playing homebrew games on the go, plus I can never decide on just one game to bring in the lite.
For normal development, I use WMB so I don't have to swap cards around.

You don't need an Arrr-4 to carry more than one game. Try putting DS Game Cards in a memory card wallet.

Using GBAMP SD when running stuff on the older DS Phat model (otherwise using R4 / M3 Perfect Lite). Works just fine although you can't write to the card - in other words no homebrew can mess your SD card. :).

It will boot ones such as Tickle Girl?

I searched and tickle girl has a .nds as well. What were you referring to?

TickleGirl uses an appended file system (GBFS, PAFS, or something similar). These were popular when GBA flash cards were the normal way of using homebrew on the DS. It's likely that TickleGirl.nds is really a SuperCard .nds, which is just a renamed ds.gba.
So the question is this: If you have a RAM pak that starts at 0x08000000 (that is, anything but the Memory Expansion Pak included with Nintendo DS Browser), can DSOrganize load a sc.nds?

What does having a ram pack have anything to do with booting a .sc.nds file? .sc.nds is just renamed .ds.gba which is just a .nds file with a 512 byte header. And yes, mighty max's loader should load the appended filesystem.

is the .nds is the same other than the extra header data? all the info in the original nds headear are accurate (+512)?

Tickle Girl, IIRC, is designed to run from GBA ROM space and is more than 4MB. So it would have to be loaded to the RAM cart to be run. The question is does DSO do this?
Anyway, I still use my GBAMP, but I wonder how much longer it'll last. Both of the screws are missing, it's taped together. >_> About half the time it won't start up until I pull it out and put it back in. I want to get an M3 Perfect CF and some sort of Slot-1 card for testing purposes, but those cost money. (The Slot-1 would also replace my ARDS as my NoPass in my Lite, since for some reason FlashMe refuses to install on it. ARDS is a pain because it sticks out of the slot, so if I leave it in and put it in my pocket, it will get bumped in and out and wear out the spring. I have to put it in, boot, and take it back out again every time, it's a pain in the butt.)
BTW, is there an M3 Perfect CF with the 32M RAM that doesn't stick out of the Lite? (Obviously, the CF itself will stick out, but besides that...) I hate how silly it looks having a GBAMP sticking out the thing, people are always asking "what's that thing" and so on... >_>)

I still have my GBAMP V2, but I don't use it anymore. I got myself a Supercard SD.
Anyone want my GBAMP V2?
#145061 - HyperHacker - Sun Nov 11, 2007 3:35 am
So yeah, mine finally gave up. Taking a look inside a few pins of the flash ROM have come right off the board. It doesn't look like it was ever actually soldered on! O_o Just glued or something. That being said, I think I won't get the M3. >_>

So fix it! Or get another one, which I did when my first one finally gave out.

How would I fix that? The pins don't stick through the board. Just drop a gob of solder on and try to keep it from shorting before it dries?
Anyway I've been annoyed with its size compared to the Lite and wanting to get a smaller card for a while. It'd be nice to get it working again to test stuff on, but it's not a real concern.

Get some flux, flux up the pins, put a tiny bit of solder on your iron and touch the pins. The solder will flow right onto the pins and shouldn't short anything out. If it does, pick up a solder sucker or desolder braid and try again. What's the worste that could happen? You break your already broken GBA MP?
