DS Flash Equipment > Interested in Passme, but EFA is acting up.

#38284 - neptunez - Fri Mar 25, 2005 10:43 am

Hi, I recieved an EFA not to long ago and I've tested it out a couple times.

For some reason my PC (running XP) won't reconize my EFA when connected to my PC via, USB. It's asking me for drivers that I've already installed.

I've tried about everything, so I was wondering If I would be able to transfer the demos you guys post here through a usb-to-(ext. port) cable with my EFA.

I know it's used for others but I was wondering If I could use with EFA, even though it has it's usb port (my isn't working).

Is there a workaround?

no

Windows likes to ask for drivers again if you connect the USB cable to a different port. Or check the Device Manager for yellow ! signs.

I had the same problem with my winXp laptop, my win2k box works flawless though. But sometimes when i connect the cart to the pc the LED refuses to turn on, but that's usually fixed with a few reconnections. Anyways i remember fixing the problem on my winXP laptop, but i don't remember how.. Try forcefeeding it the latest official drivers after connecting it to a fresh usb port . And keep using the same port afterwards.

^^ BUMP GO WIN2K!!!

XP has a f'ed up usb logic every time you plugin the same device into a def usb port xp tries to reinstall the drivers. I don't know but I think it has to do with microsoft trying to make there "OS" "multi user"/"user freindly". at least win2k doesn't get confused with my stuff.

That's funny, WindowsXP has never "f'ed" up in any way like you have mentioned. I just tried my USB mouse in 4 different USB ports and they all just work like magic ;)

You've gotta label your USB ports... "Printer", "Mouse", "Kazuya", "May", etc... That way you don't accidently use the wrong port and make Windows ask for drivers again. It only asks for driver when it's not certified I think.

BTW what does XP stand for?

I realized I didn't know it myself. :P

I've had this exact problem with my XP laptop.

At this point, I almost always have to go in to the device manager and "uninstall" the item that shows up on the USB list when I plug in my EFA cable. Then I unplug it and replug it to get the hardware wizard to run again.

It stinks, but it works.

The only down side to owning a EFA is that there is no linux support at this moment. *frowns*...

*grins* Maby there is a way to make a wrapper for linux or usb wine support.

I don't know. Just a thought...

Windows XP stands for Windows eXPerience. I know this because I watched all the press covering the release approx 3-4 days before official release (Tech-TV had a big story covering it).

This is what happens when I plug in my EFA via USB

http://img203.exs.cx/img203/9082/error19bn.jpg
http://img203.exs.cx/img203/2460/error24vg.jpg

but when I try to install the driver it says the following...

http://img203.exs.cx/img203/4916/error32dh.jpg

You think it might be a registry problem? Cause I can still view the content (had an ebook on it) that I had on my cart through my DS/GBA, it's just that I can't remove it or add any new content.

Maybe I should try Windows 2000 instead.

Just remember the 3 R's of how to fix any version of windows:

Restart
Reformat
Reinstall

Fixes it every time...

P.S.
PC runs best with Linux.

XP is an emoticon for "close your eyes and stick out your tongue".

I've never tried to run vmware on linux but that could be a last-hope-solution.

and of course it is a huge coincidence that windows XP, whichw as released not long after, and used the same general GUI theme as, did not attempt to sound in the least like mac os X ;)

go linux!

Windows eXPerience eh? sounds about right, its as bad as every other version of windows they've released *shudders when remembering back to ME*
microsoft has stolen lots of things from apple over the years...the GUI in general, a single button which lists all your programs, even the real-time search function they're trying to implement in longhorn
