#42914 - headspin - Mon May 16, 2005 5:59 pm

WMBFront Version v1.3

WMBFront is a front-end for FireFly's wmb.exe multiboot application.

1. Place WMBFront.exe in the same folder as wmb.exe
2. Place your .nds files in the data directory
3. Use Browse... to select the ROM(s) to upload
4. Press upload button to send ROM(s) to DS

Thanks To: FireFly, Loopy, Costis, DarkFader

Try a right click and save as. Works with IE, but not with FireFox though.

To download with Firefox, first enter : http://headkaze.webpal.info/ in your adress bar and load it, then enter the full link in your adress bar http://headkaze.webpal.info/WMBFront.zip and it will download.

I never had problems with Firefox downloading anything. I just right-click and select Save Link As. I don't see why people think Firefox is incapable of accomplishing this, it works fine with this link.

I always hover my mouse pointer over a link first and check the bottom left of my browser to see if the URL has a file at the end. If it doesn't, I just open in new tab (for websites), if it does, I right-click and Save Link As (for files).

I think it has something to do with Referer: protection. Free web hosts do not have an opportunity to serve advertisements if a page links directly to a .zip file. If you use a free host, then please create an HTML page for your downloads and link only to that HTML page.

My apologies about the referrer problem, I have knocked up a quick page at http://headkaze.webpal.info/ which has the download there. Shouldn't be any problems now.

If anyone can find code to get console output in realtime instead of buffering using CreatePipe or CreateNamedPipe, please e-mail me at headkaze [at] gmail.com.

Firefly has released a new version of wmb that gives real-time console output to the front end :)

You can download it from http://users.belgacom.net/bn967347/

Nice idea and great application.

(Can you make it more beautiful? Like with a list of available games with their icons and checkboxes next to them etc.)

Don't be afraid to suggest ideas, I intend on updating this program and will release the source when I can no longer be bothered to or currently upon request.

Next version will probably have a listbox with selected ROMs for uploading (instead of the current text box). If someone can give me an understanding of where to extract the icon and what format it's in, I can possibly add the icon too.

Eg.
Icon | Title | Path | Filename
-----+----------+----------+---------------
[x] |Darkstar|C:\ROMs |Darkstar.nds

I will possibly add a feature to "Loop Uploads" meaning once it finishes uploading it will run wmb.exe again to allow more uploading. Like a kiosk type thing.

Docs on the NDS format:
http://www.bottledlight.com/ds/index.php/FileFormats/NDSFormat

basically, you look in the header to see where to find the icon & title info, then you look at that location to get the icon & title info. At the bottom it explains the format of the icon data.

#43619 - headspin - Wed May 25, 2005 4:35 am

I can't find any info on what structure the icon data is. For example, where is the palette data? I know it's a 24x24 pixel image made up of 3x3 tiles, so wheres the palette located?

It's very nice!
(mainly becasue you don't have to go through DOS.)

Keep it up!

Good work :)
I was wondering if you could put in a Loop Option in the next version?
That way instead of having to hit the check after every download it automatically restarts the WMB application.

This would be useful if you have 2-3 demos up that you want to try and are not close to your computer, such as on the front porch or in the bathroom (Demos are great to pass time in the bathroom XD)

I think you are referring to "Kiosk Mode" which I mentioned a few posts above. Yes, this option is in the new version.

EDIT:Ok, I may as well release it now I guess, a little earlier than I thought but screw it. Just post here for any bugs/suggestions.

-------------------------------

WMBFront Version 1.2
- Interface overhaul ("Can you make it more beautiful?" - I'll try!)
- Added Icon/ROM info (thanks to DarkFader)
- Kiosk Mode for continuous upload

It's so people can choose from a list of games on their DS, select the game, download the game, and if in Kiosk Mode, it start again for someone else to download.

May I suggest a tray mode?
It'd be like having a server running all the time.
If I went to the bathroom and had the DS in my pocket, I would be able to have lots of fun while emptying my container!
Beats reading the news.

I was JUST about to Post and ask around if there was a persistent/kiosk mode -flag for wmb CLI, and then..BLAM! I find WMBfront... Kiosk Mode, AND tray minimize!! This is great!!!

I've got my secondary server PC acting as a NDS wireless demo station now, so any of my friends can walk by and download demos. XD

Thanks so much!

This thing is awesome, but I just have one question. Is it limited to about 7 or 8 demos at one time (if I set it up in kiosk mode for example)? Whenever I do more that about 7 or 8 (not sure on the exact number) the last few (alphabetically) do not work. This may be a hardware issue with the DS, or it may have just been a fluke for me (I have not tested it much, though I have noticed it several times). Just wondering. Thanks.

#45156 - headspin - Wed Jun 08, 2005 3:24 am

Yeah, I limited the selection of ROM files buffer to 4096 bytes. Especially when you select ROMs in directory other than data it will add the full directory making it longer as well. There is a command line length limitation, but I am unsure of what it is. I'm pretty sure it's my buffer sizes that is messing things up, or it could just be the command line limit.

I will take a look today and see if I can increase the buffers or something.

From what I see, only a certain number of characters can be passed to the comand line. Try renaming your roms from stuff like "polarium_demo_usa.nds" to just "polarium.nds" or "polarium_usa.nds" if there are multiple languages(like meteos). Another alternative to look into iwould be using directory names to shorten them and putting the roms into the directories.
