The answer is very easy. BECAUSE THERE IS NO DRIVER FOR THAT CHIPSET, and the PCI Cards are really cheap, so coding a new driver makes no sense.

Greets.

He's going to say "it has the SAME chipset," but really, it's not. As the website says, those cards are "Ralink RT2500 chipset based". The specific chipsets are something like 2525 & 2560 for PC cards (RF & MAC/baseband chipsets) and 2526 & 2570 for USB cards (RF & MAC/baseband chipsets).

People just don't get it though.

You want a driver for your "RT2500 USB" adapter?

1. Buy a second adapter & send it to me.
2. Transfer 1000 US$ to my Paypal account.
3. I will (try to) make you a driver within two months, with no guarantee that it will work.
4. Pay an additional 1000 US$ upon completion if it works.

Scenario 1: You end up with a driver that doesn't work for the price of an adapter + 1000 US$
Scenario 2: You end up with a driver that works for the price of an adapter + 2000 US$

Don't forget to add "but without the actual adapter" :-)

Just go out and buy another one. Most are cheep ('bout $20) and ship withing a week or so. It'll save us some time and the server some database space. And most importantly, it will make you feel like an idiot asking this question.

HAHAHA!!

I like Tim's idea. Would it be helpful if I made a new compatibility page with a quick explanation of why those cards work and other models don't? Really, I just might.

when you do, make sure you include personal contact information, such as AIM/MSN/Email, so 6 months down the road with the information is obsoleted, you still have n00bs IMing you like "will this work with my kraptasktoc onboard wifi laptop, man?" without even telling you what anything even is. (man, i hate myself for posting contact infos, hahaha)

Anyone know how to make a PayPal bounty script that lets users chip in donations on the order of 20 USD and adds them up? I'd bet strongly that a lot of us can't afford $1,030 severally, but we can jointly.

Let's concentrate on one bounty at a time.
