Simply put, it means that MagicKey3 contains 256/512 Mbit of flash memory (like in G6 flashcart ) to store homebrew ROMs , and 8-16 Mbytes of RAM (like in SuperCard or G6 ), for launching these ROMs.

So does that make it a better option than say the M3? (Which should be floating around now if IIRC...)

Well, it has similar functionality. You can buy one or another - it's all the same.

Thanks Kir. So with the last options there's no need for a flash card in the gba slot then because you already have the rom/ram with the Magic Key? If so this is a VERY good price.

No, you still have to put a GBA flash cart into GBA slot. It is required to boot MagicKey.

So then I'm conufsed why anybody would need/want the MagicKey3 over the 2 without the on-key memory.

Same question as unrequited:
If you use the Magic Key 2's MMC / SD slot for storing homebrew, what's the point in the v3, with its on-board extra space and 'zip' ram?

Still, interesting to see the memory cards slotting into the PassMe itself, rather than going through the GBA slot. Shame you still need a GBA flash card, really.

If I'm correct I can put apps on the SD cart, which I can run only using a gba flash cart?

This feature is useful if you don't have a SD or MMC flashcard. In that case you use internal memory for ROMs storage. And even if you have SD card, 32 Mbytes of spare SDRAM (it will be "ZIP ram" in engrish :) ) could be quite useful.

I'm really confused. What does this thing do that we cannot already do with current setups?

So what it sounds like is for someone like me who has no flash cart or anything, I'd be better off getting the M3 which can do all of this only with a CF card, without needing an SD card or flash cart or whatever. Thanks.

about the need of the gba flash card for booting the magic key.
Maybe a new DS firmware flashme for mk2/3 could be possible ?

#52540 - Mr. Picklesworth - Wed Aug 31, 2005 5:41 pm

I understand the use of the save thing...
But the rest is confusing me. So does this thing eliminate the requirement for something to be stuck into the GBA slot?!

lol, why would we need this? i understood the save thing, but the neokey is a flashcart o.0. How does this work?

No More Neo Flash! makes me think against the product. Heck, so does Neo Flash's own site.

That was a short lived site, wow. Wonder what occured there.

I do dislike the Neo Flash for other reasons as well. Their site looks like it advocates piracy, and the prices I've seen are a bit obscene (it's far cheaper to buy a PassMe, a GBAMP, and a CF card, as I'll likely do).

#87458 - techy - Wed Jun 14, 2006 12:41 am

Well, I bought this magickey2.. and now? How can I play homebrew?

I also have the GBA Movie Player 2 ,but I was told that it doesn't support homebrew... Should I buy something else?

I run the firmware test with the Pictochat trick and I have 2 green screens...
Do I need to flash the DS? How can I do it? I was searching for this dsfirmware but the site is closed and I can't find it...

Can someone give me some instuctions, please?

gbamp v2 CF supports most homebrew (i have one myself)

magic key has poor quality control. it doesn't run much homebrew for me.

i got it to launch a couple, but most failed. pepsiman had similar results, so it's not just me

the latest updates to the menu software can't even read anything my SD card, so i don't if there have been any improvements.
