Any tips on getting it out? I should buy a new cover + screw from Nintendo for $1, but how will I get the old one out in the first place?

Try to use more force :)

Ok this is hard.
Find a small hex bit (some kinda ratchet bit i think) that's the right size and superglue it too the screw. Leave overnight then undo using pliers.
With luck the glue will hold.
Otherwise you'll have to dremel a new slot and use a small slot screwdriver.
I once did this to get a heatsink screw out of a laptop.
You'll need to buy a new screw, unles you can break the screw off the hex bit.

a better idea would be to get some tinsnips and cut a head of the same size skrew and super glue the new head onto it and wait for it to try and unskrew it... just be carful u dont superglew the old skrew to the battery case :P
