DS Flash Equipment > Australian DS Lite and Flashme v7

#85628 - grooverunner - Thu Jun 01, 2006 11:33 am

Hi I'm from Australia and I picked up my DS Lite today (June 1).

I was about to install flashme v7 but I got the following message:

"Your firmware is not recognized. If you continue, it may not be possible to restore your firmware to its original state".

"Push START to continue anyway".

I was wondering if anyone else out there got the same message when they were flashing their DS Lite with Flashme v7? I'd be interested to know if this also happened on Japanese units?

I can load .NDS files if I use my Passkey2 so I can afford to be patient.

I also noticed that with the Passkey 2 I didn't need to write to the SRAM to load NDS files. As soon as I booted up the M3 with Passkey2 I was able to load NDS files. I recall having to write to SRAM with my older model DS so I found this strange, but convenient.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe Nitnendo released a new firmware.

i was in the same boat

just bought my aussie dsl this morning.. spent 2 hours installing flashme lol (i was scared of it turning off mid flash)

make sure u have the right version of flashme

when it says
"Push START to continue anyway".
press start

the first line should say 'FLASHME INTSALLER (DS LITE)'

if it does.. continue to flash it should be fine
if it doesn't i wouldn't recommend continuing.. and find a diff version of flashme

not sure about the 'DS Lite Beta' tho... someone give it a try...

#85700 - grooverunner - Thu Jun 01, 2006 10:01 pm

chaRwie you're a brave man.

I have Flashme v7, which I believe supports the DS Lite. However i cant get to the flashme page on:

ds.gcdev.com/dsfirmware/

Was it taken down? I believe v7 is the latest one anyway so I'll give it a try tonight and post my results. I've already insulated the tool I'm using to short SL1.

Can I wave my hand and say that iam the 1st person to brick my dsl in Aus? I had no problems with my normal ds but for some reason a slight jerk in my hands caused me to short the board while in flash (10%).

If anyone has succesfully flashed there dsl and lives in the the victoria let me know as I don't think i am gonna be able to return this fancy white brick.

Does A+B+Select+Start+power on work to resume the process? Which flash equipment are you using?

That was the 1st thing I tried using restore process(A+B+Star+Sel) but sadly after about 10 tries no success. When the DSL boots up there is nothing but a blank screen. No white or anything like that, just a black blank screen.

And as for flash equipment I am using superpassme 2 with supercard SD.

When using the failsafe with SuperCard, you may have to remove everything else from your CF card (so that FlashMe is the first item on the list) and then press A a few times to get the FlashMe menu to appear.

Thanks i'll give that a shot. My flashme files are located in a folder so I might trying moving them to the root directory 1st.

#85785 - grooverunner - Fri Jun 02, 2006 10:15 am

So is the flashme website still up? Can anyone else connect to:

http://ds.gcdev.com/dsfirmware ?

I realised I have flashme v5 and I don't know of another reliable source to download flashme v7.

UPDATE: I found Flashme v7 on Eurasia. However, I didnt get the "FLASHME INSTALLER (DS LITE)" message chaRwie mentioned. I thought Flashme v7 supported the DS Lite. Are there alternate versions of V7?

#85798 - chaRwie - Fri Jun 02, 2006 12:31 pm

i found this picture, before i did my flash
[Images not permitted - Click here to view it]

so when i found a flashme v7 that only said 'FLASHME INSTALLER'
i didn't use it..

#85827 - bug - Fri Jun 02, 2006 2:10 pm

The MD5 of the true flashme v7 is fa220267edb05f4386025d97e2168f3f

I just flashed my Aussie DS Lite without any problem. Yokai out of interest what shorting tool did you use? Was it insulated?

You will probably be able to recover your system. Read the last few pages of the long thread in this forum for instructions. Basically:
- remove everything from your SD card but flashme.nds
- remove your passme device
- boot the DS Lite, even though the screens don't work
- press A a few times until the flashme screen appears again

Please post your results.

Success!

Thanks for your help!

I managed to download flashme v7 from:

http://mobiles.gx-mod.com/modules/mydownloads/visit.php?lid=1700

I checked the MD5 against what bug suggested and it checked out. I even got the the "FLASHME INSTALLER (DS LITE)" screen chaRwie mentioned.

I cut off the end of a metal coat hanger to short SL1. I used a dremel tool to make the metal surface bare / clean. I insulated the sides of it by taping it up with some electrical tape. It was a perfect fit, didn't move around very much yet I could still spin it around if it wasn't making any contact. All up it took me about 2 minutes to get to 100% with some slight rotation every now and again to achieve contact. I made sure not to wiggle the wire around too much.

Hope this helps someone else hoping to flash an Aussie DS Lite.

Thanks again to bug and chaRwie for their suggestions.

What's MD5? I'm getting my Australian Lite soon, do I need to check that too, whatever it is?

#85838 - grooverunner - Fri Jun 02, 2006 3:36 pm

Ennead,

An MD5 check is something you do to ensure you have the correct/original file. It would be the equivalent of doing a fingerprint analysis to determine a person's identity.

I downloaded Flashme v7 from a French forum so I wanted to make sure it was the original thing and not something that would brick my DS. It turned out the be the correct file so I went ahead and installed Flashme v7.

I would suggest reading up on how to install Flashme on the DS Lite if you haven't done this sort of thing before. From what I understand it is very easy to short out other components on the DS Lite so it helps to be prepared.

#85843 - Ennead - Fri Jun 02, 2006 4:05 pm

Ah, thanks grooverunner.

I'm indeed reading up on it. I'm currently thinking a taped in paperclip with just the end exposed might do the job. As far as I understand, the only danger there is to bricking the DS, is when you touch more than just the SL1 with a piece of metal. So if I just tape up all but the end, I could be sticking goalposts up there...

#85900 - grooverunner - Fri Jun 02, 2006 11:36 pm

Yeah it's kind of like playing the board game "operation". Don't touch the sides!

A bit of coat hanger wire, patience and electrical tape did it for me.

#85933 - Ennead - Sat Jun 03, 2006 8:44 am

Well with the electrical on you c?n touch the sides, right? :P

Oh, and I wondered, do you need to keep your hand on the battery at all times? It's exposed, but will it fall out the moment you flip you DS too?

#85935 - grooverunner - Sat Jun 03, 2006 10:07 am

I had the back of the DS pointing up and away from me so I didn't consider this. I guess it comes down to whatever you're comfortable with. But it would be a good thing to consider if I ever did it again.

Good luck with your flashing. Don't panic if your % meter isn't going up. Move the tool you're using to short SL1 around a bit until you make contact and it will resume. Don't be too vigorous about it though.

Thanks for the help, tips and info. I can't wait for the little polarwhite wonder to arrive. Aaaany day now.

I was able to do it, thou I had help from a friend in this instance. He had flashed his DSl also and showed me his shorting tool which was way better than my one.

Anyways guys thank you for your help and sorry for my late reply.

I flashed two Australian NDS lite today with flashme v7 and zero problems.
I did get the warning text saying the firmware didn't match also. =)

These DS Lites's were bought on 1st of June at Myer in Sydney.
And it works very well with EZ4 MiniSD flashcart.

It's so easy to flash it that I don't know how people could mess it up.
Just use a very small flathead screw driver with tape around the sides.
Then put it in the hole vertically towards the middle of the SLI bridge contacts (so it doesn't bridge)
Then once in, turn the screw driver 90 degrees to bridge. Simple! =)

Hi I just got my AUS DS Lite yesterday and thinking of flashing the firmware. Could you guys tell me where to get all the flashing and super cards stuff from here in Aus?

Cheers!

No. Promotion of a specific retailer is forbidden.

There are a few online Australia based shops but they are not cheap.

I ordered mine from overseas shops. There are many but can't mention in this thread.

Try the supercard forums if you want.

Just wondering, can anyone get their NDS Lite's brightness control to work properly with the flashme v7?

I've downloaded from multiple places now (even the one in the sticky on this forum) and 3 of my DS Lite's all just has On/Off for the brightness setting when I use that light icon on the bottom left.

(I get the "your firmware is not recognised" message when I flass it using the flashme v7)

#87468 - bessiebenny - Wed Jun 14, 2006 1:29 am

So everyone in Oz has no isses with being able to select multiple levels of brightness at the main screen after using Flashme v7...?

(I have 3 DS Lites and all fails to get recognised by Flashme v7...)

(I've tried all the links posted of v7 from this forum so far..... =(

#87710 - bessiebenny - Thu Jun 15, 2006 3:50 am

i've reflashed my DS and this time it detected it as a DS Lite.
(Even though you still get the unrecognised warning screen)

Now I get full brightness control. =)

#87730 - Critical_Impact - Thu Jun 15, 2006 8:08 am

My flashed AUS DS Lite works fine, has all brightness settings. Had no problems at all flashing it

#88101 - mbd - Sat Jun 17, 2006 3:48 pm

Is there a place in Melbourne I can take my DS Lite to have the flashme firmware installed? (Preferably inner city/inner north). I don't have the necessary cards to boot it, and would probably rather let someone more experienced to do the dirty work for me. Feel free to PM if suggesting a place in the forum itself is frowned upon....

#88214 - bessiebenny - Sun Jun 18, 2006 3:59 am

I could, but I'm in Sydney so I guess it's not possible.
Hope someone else helps ya out. =)

But I would charge at least $10 coz it definitely wasn't free for me as I needed an original game cart and also needed to buy the passme2 + shipping from overseas which wasn't cheap.

Thanks - I hope so too. I might be up in Sydney in a couple of weeks, so if I haven't found anyone down here before then I'll get in touch with you perhaps. Happy to throw $10 your way for the effort :-).
