Don't shut off your DS Lite. Just keep trying to wiggle your shortening tool until it reaches 100%.
You can also try making a new one with a toothpic, aluminum foil and black electrical tape. Put foil on the end of the toothpic, and insulate the sides with the tape, so that only the tip can conduct electricity.

you can also get a small piece of wire and strip the ends and jab it into the hole like i did after unable to move past 4%.

i got frustrated and tore off the insulating tape, then i was able to finish no problem. brightness settings preserved! time to waste a hundred dollars on a more appropriately sized flash device :-/

That's what I had to do too, I was stuck at 1% for like 10 minutes before I took off that tape.

This reminds me the time I tried to flash my DS with plastic and somehow got to 1%
