DS Flash Equipment > FlashMe risks...

#87255 - Kratos - Mon Jun 12, 2006 10:04 pm

I'm thinking of getting my DS flashed, so I decided to look for an article about it on Wikipedia. There I found this:

The main problem with this method is related to the fact that the modified firmware is slightly bigger than the original one. When Nintendo adds more functionality to the firmware, (wifi parameters) it breaks compatibility with the current version of FlashMe. Users of version 4 (and lower) of FlashMe encountered firmware corruption with wifi enabled games. Newer versions of FlashMe (versions 5, 6 and 7 as of this writing) were shuffled around and recompressed to be compatible with wifi-enabled games, such as Mario Kart DS.

I have firmware v4.

I also found this on wiki.PIRACY-DOT-COM:
Fallback to standard firmware: The Select button skips gamecode detection. This means you can hold Select to boot the DS card, Select+B to boot the GBA card, or Select+Start to enter the firmware menu.

Does this mean I have to hold a/some buttons everytime I want to play a game?

And I also found this:

Backlight fades in at startup.

What happens after that?

it says "version 4 of FlashMe" NOT "version 4 of your pre-existing DS firmware"

If you want to play a DS Game Card on a DS with FlashMe, you can
  • remove the GBA flash card before turning on the power, or
  • hold Select while you turn on the power, and keep Select pressed until the backlight begins to fade in.
If you have a flash card with both GBA and Nintendo DS content on it, such as my GBA Movie Player, holding Select+B while powering on the system will force GBA mode.

Select+B just brings me to the menu. O_o I think it only works if you use Manual mode.

Other way around, Select+B in auto mode forces into gba mode. holding B in auto mode is built into the original firmware.

Auto-mode overrides that i know of:

Start - Main Menu
B - GBA mode
nothing - DS mode

Right, I meant auto mode.
