Has anybody tried this to short SL1 on the original DS or the DS Lite?

Why would you want to? Wouldn't this (more or less) permanently remove the flashing protection?

Because you can pencil it while the DS is off so that you don't have to hold the battery in (DS classic) or avoid the side (DS Lite) while shorting SL1.

Unless you erase the pencil marks afterward.

I used a twist tie since it is nicly protected on the sides, but you can strip the tip and reshape it to flash SL1

Hmm.. yeah.. I don't see the erasure being able to remove it from between the pads.. Don't know if I would like to leave my SL1 shorted..
