OffTopic > Bad release: Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis

#100231 - Xtreme - Sat Aug 26, 2006 10:42 pm

Here is a comparison:
Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis (DS) *Year 2006*
vs.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong (GBA) *Year 2004*

This is awful!

I loosed my hope on that game. :(

The gameplay will make the final decision, not the visuals.

Maybe it's just filler art to test the gameplay and they are going to redo it before release...

EDIT: Or has this been released? But anyway, I agree that in comparison the GBA game looks better.

Voted: "Let's wait 'n see"

I have fond memories of playing C64, Atari-2600, NES, and SNES as a kid.
I prefer 8-bit graphics to the over-the-top 3D-ish ones.

It seems with this console generation, that Nintendo is looking to please people like me who remember playing the older consoles.

It's just the artists style preference. If the art designer thinks this looks better on the backgrounds, then he will pick this style.

Lick is right. There has been a backlash against the 3D art style seen in the original M vs DK.

Voted "Don't know".

I prefer the bold line look, but I don't have many mainstream views. Who knows what the most marketable look is? You can't please everybody.

Why do the visuals matter?

Try asking that question in an animators forum. They'll look at you like you are from another planet. =)

I agree with you personally, but I play things like ADOM. I'll argue that more people are visually oriented than not.

I don't know. I'm 50/50 on what I think peoples opinion is. The graphics give them an incentive, yet my younger brothers and sisters quite happily play the n64 as often as the gamecube.

And when I put on bomberman at work(youth club), there was no mention of tekken, gt, pro evo or any other recent 3d game we had. Just wait till I bring down bubble bobble ^_^ I'll have the kids coming home with square eyes, twitching thumbs and the inability to close their eyes without seeing animated visuals from the game backed by the theme tune.

I think it is fine, but it may be bad because of JPEG compression

(I play ADOM as well, and it is good game, and it doesn't have any graphics!)

personally i though mvdk on the gba had greate graphics, the new one might look better in motion, i dont care, if the game is good then people will buy it no matter what it looks like.

Some people will. The graphics snobs won't touch it.

I think ADOM is fantastic, but the author mentions on his website that games can't be sold commercially without graphics these days. Ie very few people would buy it.

Ever beaten it? I haven't =P YASD in the water dragon cave =P (There are other reasons why it wouldn't sell mainstream.)

I may be alone in saying this, but I reckon the graphics of New SMB worked against it.

New smb had good gfx, it was a little distracting at first, having most stuff in 2D and random enemies in 3D.
