OffTopic > Releasing an... unfinished project

#106065 - MrD - Sat Oct 14, 2006 9:35 pm

I'm working on a large project, and I think I'm at the stage where I've done all I can do by myself.

I'd like other folks to have a looksee at what I've done, and take a shot at improving it.

What should I do?

What kind of project is this?

A game (engine, mostly) for the Nintendo DS, together with level tools.

You may as well release it. Worst case scenario, nobody pays any attention to it.

I think the worst case scenario is that it could be of good use and expanded, but was never released.

Oh yeah, definitely release it.

But... I'm trying to think what kind of support stuff I should set up, and what else I should do.

As it stands, there really isn't much it can do by itself. It kinda needs folks' input to work.

So long as it has the appropriate documentation, it should be able to be used in due time.

If the documentation isn't written yet, you could release it, polish it and then rerelease it with documentation.

Ah, so how about putting it in the "Help Wanted" section first - try to get a few people involved in the project. Otherwise the risk for people taking a look, but then not really doing anything with it, is rather high, I'd think.
