- A form with 20 'pick the darker colour' option boxes.

- Identify the joke!

- Identify the most/least human phrase!

- Identify the cheerleaders!

Bot protection is hard. Somebody valid can always be screened out. People with poor English almost always get screened out. FWIW, I doubt we have many blind members because the GBA and DS are devices for sighted people.

Image readers could be written. May not be worth the trouble.

Screens out the humor impaired.

The metric is difficult. If it is grammar, I'm all for it because as a side effect... =) Very unfriendly to non-native English speakers who try despite imperect language skills. (Grammar related opinion does not apply to them.)

I bet this could be made foreigner friendly. It may offend feminists?

My vote is a multiple choice quiz on the FAQ (easy questions). Everyone should read it (or at least know how to read it). Even questions on where the FAQ is and how to use it would do. Questions and answers should be presented using warped images. Answers should be presented in random order. Seems bot proof to me.

When using the standard phpbb Visual Confirmation Registration, several spambots signed up every day. Since it was changed to a simple question/answer type thing 2 months ago, not a single spambot (to my knowledge) has signed up. The question has stayed the same during this time as well.

I've installed a non-standard CAPTCHA in the dev-scene forums due to the ungodly large number of she-male related bots that popped up.

Sure I'm sure they'll bypass my mod soon enough but so far it seems to work well - nothing is going to stop them forever

I always wonder who actually goes for the stuff that spambots are trying to sell - it must be lucrative or else there wouldn't be so many spambots around, right? Or maybe it's just like HR people using the same standard BS questions: If every dodgy / sketchy company is using spambot advertisement, then it has to work, so the next company of that sort is going to do it as well, irrespective of the actual success rate.

Hmmm, hmmm.

And 1 in a million a day is a fortune if they do it a billion times.

Does retawq have image support?

Especially because Aspies like myself tend to be more attracted to game programming than the general population is.

But the thing about the FAQ brings up a good point: Spammers won't take the time to solve site-specific CAPTCHAs on anything but the largest sites (Yahoo!, Windows Live, etc). I am a regular (and a moderator) on a forum dedicated to tetromino games, and I've developed a prototype CAPTCHA for that forum.

Excellent! I remember once seeing a code to enter the piano room at the music academy; knock the rhythm displayed on the door!

Just a side-note; J?rn Nystad - my co-author on pimpmobile, colleague and earlier flat-mate - has Asperger's too. Interesting condition, although I wouldn't want my worst enemy to go through the sufferings. He recently became a millionaire, btw ;)

Does captttttcha work in text only browsers? If not you could make it show filled cells as # characters... (providing they're using a fixed-width font)

Hey Simon, would you mind giving me a link which shows how to install something like that into phpBB? :)

I think I got the info from somewhere in this thread: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=393503

Anti-bot signup question mod or something...

Shouldn't the question be "Which of these four is a planet?"
