Dragonminded was the reason Dragonminded left the scene. He gets upset very easily. See here: http://q.rafb.net/1022

Your sentence above is very telling, you say you hare hating SC because of what someone else wrote? Might want to think that over a bit...

Anyway, this is a neat project, I'll have to try it when I get a chance.

So...Dragon posts maturely wanting feedback, gets a stupid response, then someone else makes a groundless sarcastic remark...and thats his fault.
right.

It's his fault for giving up on his project because someone makes a stupid joke. The joke's not his fault, the getting upset and giving up is.

Could we stay on topic?
Please.

Now I can see how this can discourage someone if everyone is mocking them; half of the motivation to create work for these platforms is peer review. But from one comment, at this point it sounds very 'young'.

This was a split from the moonbook topic. It was offtopic there, but is on topic here.

Why is this even being brought back up? When people feel the extreme amount of hardwork they have done is without any appreciation, stuff like this happens.

Like they say, one bad apple spoils the whole barrol.

Yes one bad apple does spoil the barrel but that does not mean that one bad comment should completely destroy your aspirations. If everyone was mocking him then sure that makes sense, but one person making a silly comment seems a bit drastic.

For some reason, I have a feeling there is more to it than a single blog comment. Everything is basicaly rumor anyway.

Bottom line, homebrew devers are doing this become the like what they do. When something that is basically a "hobby" becomes a hassle, it is no longer fun. If it's no longer fun, why keep doing it? Everyone makes their own decisions based on whatever they think and his decision should be accepted even if you personally don't like it.

It only takes one person (again, not refering to the blog post) to push people past the edge and it's easier to just quit than to deal with the stupidity.

Another example would be with LiraNuna and his #learn2d channel. It didn't hurt anyone for him to do that, and he was only trying to help.. But, when he gets harrassed by an idiot or two, it's easy to not deal with them, as he's not really gaining anything by trying to help. So, all the newbies that could have learned something from him are the ones that loose, the idiots didn't plan on learning anything anyway, just wanting try to start crap like they always do.

In my opinion: Retiring was OK. Retiring with a strongly stated wish that his projects not be forked and revived was not OK.

I agree it was a crappy thing to do.. but, it was his work. And when people get upset they do things like that.. Tepples, do you not visit #dsdev or #mellowdsdev at all? If not, I'm sure you heard about the things that were going on.. Just sit back and pretend it happened to you. It's easy to think that "i wouldn't have did that" but when you look at it honestly, it's easy to see why he did. I mean, he did all this work, and "this" is his reward.

Bottom line, I'll take this over what he could have did. (implying that I can think of a 100X much worse way DSOrganize could have ended)

His work combined with libraries that's license is designed to prevent these kind of things.

I don't follow IRC, but I read the part of the drama that spilled into this forum.

Something not entirely different happened to me while I was developing the PC predecessor to LOCKJAW: The Overdose in 2000. The developers of Tetripz, the DOS game that inspired TOD, called me a "lamer" for copying their idea. (It was resolved amicably when I agreed to include a credit for Mute Fantasies in the documentation for the PC version.)

This is one reason why we shouldn't attack people who develop competition to existing programs (e.g. MoonShell vs. Licks Media Player). If there is another organizer program for the DS, there's less incentive to take one's ball and go home and DissuadeReputation against people who exercise their rights under the GPL.

We shouldn't attack people at all. If you don't like it, don't use it. If they are asking for feedback, and you provide positive feedback, that is one thing, but attacking the creator of something you received for FREE doesn't help anyone. this vs. that is just stupid (meaning, attacking the author saying something else is better than theirs so they may as well just give up, kind of thing). I mean.. I still use MightyMax's multiboot loader on my GBA MP.. Is Moonshell or DSOrgainze better? Maybe, I like what I like and that's that. Joe likes DSO better than Moonshell.. good for him, that's no reason to attack Moonshell.

Moonshell - Great! keep up the good work
DSO - Great! wish it was still alive
Lynx's Compo Entry - Crap! Maybe, then don't use it!

Hey, How'd you know that :-)

Actually I have both on my GBAMP, but DSO is the boot loader.
