I'm just kind of curious what kind of response would end up here as to whether Gnirfleo, a homebrew Nintendo DS browser, is real or an elaborate scam. Maybe we can take some bets even :-P So far there is no evidence that it is real...the picture of it running on the DS could just as easily be a screenshot displayed on the DS...and it looks like it too...
Oh..one other thing...the apparent release date is very close to April Fools :)
Oh...I stuck this in offtopic since....I seriously question its legitimacy.
EDIT: sorry....I messed up the poll...
YES = It is Real.
No = It's not Real.
[Poll wording corrected by MOD]
EDIT: Thanks *Insert whichever mod changed it here* for fixing it for me..it woudlen't let me change it after a vote was cast.

You are missing a "never heard of it/other/refuse" option. =P

I don't think it's fake, but it'll never be usable.

It's funny how all the "Fully working" games/apps like this.. never seem to have even a demo version available for download, yet you have lots available to download before they are even working.
So, if it was even close to being real, they would want people using it to help find bugs.. The project is a success because the project is to draw views and posts. It's just sad that it takes your poll for us to have even heard of it.

I'm not totaly sure why there hasen't been any say about it arround here. It has been on drunkencoders numerouse times. Though...either way, the "project" has quite a number of fans and people who are willing to stick up for it at all costs and also like to request Flash Support...
I wish I thought of doing this as a joke, considering it is a joke...I would have made it much more elaborate and would have had a great subject for a paper. :S

Well, this isn't the first time a project has duped people into believeing it.. Why does DS Tunneling come to mind? :)
I'm sure it won't be the last.

Does anyone know the developer behind the program and what he is using to make the browser?

Oh, he claims to have it working now, I don't know if I believe that... But, my yes vote still applies. Seems most people think gnirfleo isn't either real nor fake. :)

Sadly enough, that's the basic story of the Ocarina of Time 2D fangame. I think we were supposed to have receieved the fabled Demo 4 that contained up through the first dungeon on Christmas '03. It is supposedly still in development, though I'm not very convinced.

So far their progress is as follows:

A few quotes from his blog:
Quote: |
I just got asked to join this great project to work on the graphics.
I'll be making the browsers' interface |
and

That is -to be honest- the only thing that's left to do here (and some parts of the interface, but that's not that important). |
So he finds his own work not important?

That's strange, because he acts like the project lead. (the way he releases info)
Quote: |
It's not released yet, but I'm working on it, and the first version should be released for free somewhere in December or January.
[...]
[Januari 2nd:]
I am glad to tell you that a release is not too far away anymore!
[Than on January 22nd:]
're trying to release the first Beta version on 24th of March.
|
He probably has a different definition of 'not too far away' :)

He's a graphics designer? Right...

wow
i wrote this message with the gnirfleo webbrowser. it took me almost 20 minutes so it needs a lot of work. |
Yeah, because ignoring caps(which he normally writes) will make us believe that it was done on an embedded device... </sarcasm>
I call BS on this project.
[edit] And what's the matter with this poll?
"Is Gnirfleo Real or Fake?"
-> How can that have a yes/no answer?
Does yes mean: "yes it's real", "yes it's fake" or "yes, it's either real or fake"?
I'm starting to think that the topic starter is the one behind this, but that might just be me in conspiracy-mode.

If I were to parse this logically, I would get:
"is [project] real OR fake?"
Or, as a boolean operation:
Which is always true, by definition. I think he means "is [project] real?" because that question is meaningful and real is listed first.

It certainly appears to be vaporware and will continue to appear that way until a demo is released.

...you know, consider reading the first post in its entirity before making accusations.

No = It's not Real. |
I'm sorry that I made a mistake on the poll...that edit has been there since the poll was made though. ;-) By the way, I like your logic - ( real || !real ). :)
EDIT: Anyways, if i did it...it would be much more believable and much more elaborate. :-P
